Chris Hughton has urged Albion to move on from their first defeat of the season.
But he admitted a tough week caught up with his side as they lost 3-0 at home to Middlesbrough.
The Seagulls boss said: "We have been on such a good run but we have caught Middlesbrough at the end of week where we had two very tough away games.
"We haven’t been able to manouvre the team certainly as well as Middlesbrough have been able to.
"I think they showed why they are where they are.
"They are a team that everybody fancied last season and just missed out on promotion.
"I thought our general play at times, as regards possession, percentages, wouldn’t have been dramatically different.
"But on the hard facts they were better than us today."
Hughton was still waiting for details of the injury which forced Uwe Huenemeier*out of the action but it is believed to be a groin problem.
