Qutie suprised that Return of the Jedi is doing so badly, the bit where Darth throws the Emporer to his death is brilliant as it's the first time in the trilogy where good defeats evil. And as for the Ewoks, I think they are quality, it is a kids film after all.

I will simply give you one answer:

EWOKS !!!

This was the point where GL sold out to commercialism and decided to include a planet populated with cuddly teddy bears, who somehow manage (with the help of ropes and rocks and logs) to defeat a crack unit of Imperial Stormtroopers. Crazy stuff.

KIDS FILM

Well that's the problem then isn't it, because there's no way that Empire was a kids film, and it was better for it. The Kids Film ideal has been carried forward to Episode I & II, with the main 'comic character' being Jar Jar binks, and the main comic moments being fart jokes - how far we've fallen.

I think it was.

I don't what to get into a deep conversation about star wars because they always end in tears but I just think the Ewoks were refreshing.

HAs to be Empire......Pure class. Can't wait for the trilogy DVD set to come out. Have them all on video but digital sound etc will give star wars a new lease of life

totslly agree tinx, as long as GL doesn't make too many 'new' changes to the trilogy, AND he restores the Han - Greedo scene to the original, with Han shooting first.

I would say that The Empire Strikes Back is the best film ever.

I think that people are wrong to dismiss Phantom and Jedi, as repeat viewings help to bed them in the context of the saga, and Ewoks have and always will be cool (although I agree that the Special Edition Ewok song wasn't a patch on the original - a rare duffer from John Williams).

People didn't like The Phantom Menace because it didn't entirely feel right, in my opinion the reason for that was because the Empire wasn't present, Attack of the Clones felt better because it had Stormtroopers in it. Just you wait for Episode III!!!

Then watch all the films one after another and see the WHOLE story.

Fair point, but would you WANT to watch them in the order 1-6, as the whole 'No, I'm your father' shock would be lost, as people would know that Anakin was Luke's father.

For my tuppence worth, I think one of the things missing from Ep 1 & 2 is a character akin to Han Solo, a rogue, but a likeable rogue. Everyone in the Prequel trilogy is very formal and there is no room for a more likable character. I know that this is most likely done on purpose, to reflect a more formal time, with the Republic still intact.

I also thought that AOTC was a reasonable film, but suffered from over use of CGI. It wouldn't have hurt to have some of the Clone troopers as real people to get a better acting performance out of the main characters.

A New Hope is my favorite, the original and the best. Empire is also quality. The series starts to slide with ROTJ which was good but not great, and the two prequels are both utter tosh for which George Lucas and ILM deserve a good kicking.
