Best movie characters...

[Easy 10]

Went and saw Pirates of the Caribbean last night. Decent enough film, but Johnny Depp carried most of it with his superbly bizarre, drunken Jack Sparrow character - without him, the film would have been fairly average. Anyway, what about other outstanding performances which have stood out ? Couple of others for me:

Val Kilmner as Doc Holiday in Tombstone - some killer one-liners, another great drunken performance.

Jack Nicholson as Colonel Nathan Jessop in A Few Good Men - stole every scene he was in, scared the shit out of me.

Gollum in The Two Towers - the most fascinating use of CGI I have ever seen in a movie. Truley amazing.

Just watched the extras on the DVD about how they made Gollum move and stuff, fantastic use of the technology i must agree.

I know its cheesy but Joe Pesci as Tommy in Goodfellas is an excellently played role. Tommy is a charchter that really should be hated, a mouthy little gob shite and violent as f*** to boot but you cannot help feeling a liitle upset that when he thought he was going to be made he got shot in the head instead. I think its probably to do with his love for his mother or something...

Day-Lewis as Bill the Butcher

Best of all that i ever saw though is Jean Reno as Leon in the film of the same name. Don't know how to describe why but it blows my mind every time i see it. Marvellous actor.

Good shout. Saw that at the pictures too, not got round to it yet on DVD, but I intend to. Di Caprio was totally out of depth in that movie, specially against Day-Lewis, who dominated it.

The late Lenny McLean as Barry the Baptist in Lock Stock was also tremendous I thought. "f***ing northern monkeys".
