... well, not really, they're all American for a start
Cool Tools: The Best Magazine Articles Ever

But there are some good writers here and some interesting looking articles.

I wonder what a British list would look like - pieces from George Orwell? Christopher Hitchens?

There wouldn't be that many as British magazines don't tend to go for the long in-depth ideas that American ones do.

It's a good idea for an article though - amazed I've not seen something like this before

Nestling in green nowhere
My favourite was from Penthouse circa 1979 penned by someone named "La Civious." I discovered this towering opus under a hedge in Victoria Park, Birkenhead, Merseyside whilst foraging with some boyhood friends.

It recounted the travails of a young woman who was ostensibly quite studious and quiet in her role as Librarian but was somewhat wanton in her Private life.

This saw her romantically linked with several Gentlemen in squalid surroundings. I certainly remember the back of a truck cabin, a public toilet and some bushes and vaguely remember something about a police cell and half of C shift but cant be sure.

I spent many an hour studying this article and its accompanying illustrations over some 3 years until, eventually it fell to pieces. A sad loss.

It was wonderfully observed and formed the basis for my views of women, and what they really want, ever since.
