OK the great and the good on NSC some travel advice on what to do in Berlin as we are going Saturday for 5 days.

So some family orientated advice as a very grumpy 17 year old and a more fun 12 year old (both boys) in tow.

Anything history / sports related would help..............

Allies Museum (Alliertenmuseum) is very interesting. You get the whole story about the Berlin Airlift, with quite a lot about Tempelhof Airport, which has now closed. Stasi Museum if you and your kids are into Cold War history. This has Erich Mielke's office, just as he left it. Don't look too closely at the locals though. The museum is in Lichtenberg, a run down area of East Berlin, notorious for skinheads. The Cecilienhof is good too. This is the house where the Potsdam Meeting was held, and you can stand by Churchill's chair. Also, of course, the Olympic Stadium. As for beer, I did not like the local Berliner Pilsner, so tended to go for Warsteiner instead. Berliner Weisse is supposed to be good though, if you like wheat beer.

I went in January and it was ruddy freezing, Herr Tubthumper gave me some great advice on where to go, would be worth dropping him a PM.

I enjoyed the DDR museum, it's not huge but it's very hands on with lots of things to do. Also the Jewish museum is quite spectacular but not greatly pleasurable, although I would definitely recommend. They will most likely enjoy going up the Fernseheterum 9TV Tower).

If Hertha are at home I would recommend going to see them play, dead easy to get to, cheap tickets and a magnificent stadium.

Herr Tubthumper is your man as he lived there for a while. I'm sure he'll contribute shortly but if not, send him a PM
