This is a blow for Stockport, and possibly Sheff Weds who were sniffing around
Stockport striker Luke Beckett will be out of action for between four and six months after suffering anterior cruciate ligament damage.
Beckett has been told he will need major reconstructive surgery on his knee after a scan on Friday revealed the extent of the injury.
Beckett, who has scored four goals in only five league appearances so far this season for County, had been a transfer target of Northampton and Sheffield Wednesday in recent weeks.
"It's a huge blow for the kid because he loves football and works very hard," said Stockport manager Carlton Palmer.
"As long as he gets himself back to fitness he could play towards the end of the season, when hopefully we'll be pushing for the play-offs, but if not, we'll just have to make sure he's ready for next season."
The former Chesterfield striker scored 29 goals last season.
