Elton John is actually ok by me - he's not really a musician just an entertainer who happens to tinkle the ivories.... made a few good songs in his time - Daniel for one...

That Tracy Chapman voice does my head in - its like when the parmesan cheese goes hard in the fridge and you try to grate it....

Popstars and Poptarts the rivals? WTF are our young people on if they think there hard earnied pocket money is well spent on that

I'm startlingly in agreement with Dwayne. I hate The Streets. Claiming to be an urban poet. Talking about drinking a fecking cup of tea doth not a fecking poet make. He has precisely nothing interesting to say to me and i find his music to be as inventive as Jive Bunny.

When has he ever said he was an urban poet?

I don't get it when people slag him off by saying he thinks he's a f***ing representation of the streets, its quite clear that everything he does is deliberately tongue in cheek, or is it just me being biased?

ok lets not do the "coldplay" arguement as it has been done a million times b4.

mine is "U2" cant stand them everyone seems to love them

a couple of there songs are ok, but the rest nothing special.

Good call Popkins. U2 have only lasted so long because they're so anodyne and innofensive. "Where the streets have no name" was good though.

Coldplay obviously and Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Heard 'Californication' (sp) the other day - derivative, repetitve rubbish.

I don't disagree that he has a sense of humour, but i have read such a claim somewhere in the past. If it was a total piss-take, then fair enough, i'll just dislike him for boring me with his music and sarcastic lyrics.

If Mike Skinner can be championed for being a man of the streets then dwayne can be championed for being a popular, black activist.:bigwave:

Genesis with Peter Gabriel - Mostly good, occasionaly brilliant, always original and inventive. Some rubbish though.

Genesis post Gabriel - Utter utter utter utter crap.

I happen to disagree, but even Phil Collins has said that he didn't understand how people could like both incarnations as they were so different.

A couple of crap albums (Duke for one), but mostly good stuff.

We Can't Dance is surely a classic!

Each to their own.

Listened to Dizzee's album again last night. Class, eh dwayne?

"freezing cold flows like Moscow" is a similie of cod-GCSE prose and this sums the "kid" up. He's got a little charisma but no talent, his beats are pseudo def jux (so maybe a year or 2 late) and at least El-P has method to his 808 madness. There's just too many unispiring moments of random bravado and attempts at street tales. Y'know the type of aimless but hard-headed meandering that has plagued many a domestic rap alubm. And on that tip, the Yanks still do it better.

I have always found it impossible to remain in a room in which the Cranberries music is playing. I was driven out of Homebase recently by their gruesome wailing. Same applies to Alanis Morrisette
