My point was that we have no idea how many iraqis do or do not want us there and should be careful not to just up and leave a lot in the shit just because we asume they dont want our help.

PLus the IRA do not represent the tip of a large iceberg..most decent people in northen ireland want peace, the IRA and UVf etc are clinging to the dispute for own means sucha s drug trafficking etc.

You seem to be basing your opinions on the assumption that the Iraqia do not have the gumption, skills, abilities, however you want to put it, to put their own country in order. Which is a very questionable position to take.

But let's say they do need help - they have, after all, had their entire infrastructure destroyed by us. We could withdraw, allowing a body of civilian administrators from Arab League countries to take over.

But no, that ain't gonna happen. And why not? Because Iraq is intended as a forward command post, a huge military base slap bang in the middle of a part of the world the US is desperate to control. So f*** the Iraqis, let's pretend they are useless, can't run their own country, and need our 'help'. That'll sort it out.

In order to keep the peace then yes they do need our help at the moment. I am nto for one minute saying they cant run themselves when established but if we were to withdraw it would create a vaccum for power which would see any democratically established government in violent turmoil with extremists groups.

What am saying is we have tried to help them, done as much as we can but they just seem to not want any help. WHy should we keep our soldiers there to be blown up for no reason :nono:

we should keep our soldiers there because whether you agreed with it before hand or not, the fact remains that we invaded a sovereign country, destroyed its law and order, and all other forms of society, and it is now our responsibility to (help) rebuild the country in, hopefully a better way.
