I know this is an Albion forum but I think lots of genuine footy fans would love their side to aspire to play as Arsenal can play.

But, with the heart of the team jumping ship, what does the future hold ? Gus has managed to get us playing like Arsenal at times but on a pretty small budget and within a relatively short time. So, how come Arsenal always seem to be a year away from becoming "The Finished Article " It seems that whoever Arsene Wenger buys, there then comes long term injury or a slide into obscurity.

So, It's 1-0 to Arsenal tonight but the way the Manchester teams are playing and with Liverpool before the return match with Udinese they could be at least 5 points off the Premiership pace and out of the Champions league.

Is it time to contemplate the seemingly unthinkable and replace Wenger before they slide down the table in the manner of Brian Clough's Forest ?

Listening to some Arsenal fans and 'pundits' you would think its all doom and gloom and it wouldnt suprise me if Wenger sods off.

They play attractive football, have a great stadium and appear to be on a decent financial footing. To even be competing for the title alongside teams like Man Utd/Chelsea/Man City is a miracle given their superior financial clout!

But with Fabregas gone, Nasri looking for an exit and players either out of form or regularly injured I just can't see who is the natural focus of the squad, who will rise to lead ? They seem to play good football but never grind out a result when it matters. It's sad

Time to bring back George Graham. If anyone knows how to grind a result, it's him.

I don't think another manager could do better, so no.

other than Ferguson, Mourinho, Hiddink, Ancelloti and Mancini maybe? with the talent available, even Redknapp has arguably achived more.

they continue failing to be the finished article because, in his noble attempt to create a perfect footballing side, he overlooks the importance of leadership and physical or mental strength. the sum of the parts is not enough to see through a whole season. finance is not an excuse. he's just spent £10m on an inexperienced and untried young winger, while haggling over a similar price for a stong experienced center back. i recall the russian sheaholder said a year or two ago he would write an open cheque to fill the missing CB and DM spots, an offer apparently ignored.

hes not really viable for the business of the club. what good is a transfer budget if you're not going to buy anyone with it.

IMO Arsenal play the most attractive football and under Wengers management have not been held to ransom by paying outrageous transfer fees for players like many of the other so called Top clubs. They have a lower wage bill / budget than Utd, City, Chelsea, and even liverpool as far as I am led to believe. I think Wenger should be congratulated on standing firm amidst mounting pressure from fans and pundits etc. He knows what he wants and will not be swayed, which sounds a bit like our Gus.

Having said that, it is much easier for me to have this opinion given that I could not give a rats ass about any premiership side. I am sure if I were an Arsenal fan, I may well be more demanding of trophies and success, especially given the season ticket prices.

Arsenal are weak. Enough talent to guarantee a top finish, but plenty of overpaid players that will only be able to operate for half the season. I don't buy the love in. It's almost boring in that they are so predictable. They should have flogged their captain as soon as his head was turned.

(Limited) From what I saw, they were not that astoundlingly fantastic to watch. It is reported that Fabregas will be taking a wage cut. They might not throw £100k+ a week at players, but I imagine that the players do not go short.

Unrelated to Wenger but does anyone find it odd that Benfica's ground is exactly the same as the Emirates lol

Remember when Charlton fans used to moan about Curbishley not being able to take them any higher than 10th in the Premier League?

Everyone keeps going on about Fabregas taking a pay cut. I may be totally wrong but is he not going to be paying FAR LESS tax in Spain. Thus menaing he is not really taking a pay cut. Not that its matters anyway.

I totally dissagree though, I think they have been superb to watch for a good few years. And lets not forget they came closer than anyone to beating Barca last year. If only they hadn't had that useless scandanavian lump up front.

I think the problem Arsenal currently have is that Wenger isn't any good at building a team. And he's certainly not good at regenerating one. Look at Fergie at Man Utd, he has rebuilt his team a few times and they've always been challenging for trophies. Arsene either doesn't know how to, or just can't do it. He currently has a first team as good as any in the league, but reserve players who are unable to affect the game. A midfield trio of Song, Wilshere and Ramsey isn't experienced enough yet, but what other options does he have? Frimpong (who?!)? Rosicky in the centre, with HIS knees? I don't honestly understand why he would allow his squad to be so bare going into the season. Clichy left for Man City, but no other left back has emerged. Kieran Gibbs is amazingly overated, it won't be long before he's out of the team and all of a sudden Vermaelen will be at left back and Squillaci will be in the centre, that can only end well! No cover at right back, either. There's an over reliance on producing amazing kids at that club at the moment, but there doesn't appear to be a batch ready to come through.

If Wenger was to get sacked this season it would be the biggest tragedy in football. Came to the club at a time of great need, brought them 3 Premier leagues and 4 FA Cups with a invincible side. Soon after the big players moved on: Anelka 25 million Henry 16 million Overmars 15 million Viera some more millions. This had to be done to fund their stadium and it was then required that Arsenal needed to build a squad from their youth team and find players who were young cheap with good protential so as to keep them in the Champions league which he succeeded in doing. He's won 7 trophies at Arsenal at the start of his reign then by actually creating a profit of 100 + million kept them in the champions league during their expensive move from Highbury to the Emirates with the bonus of playing beutiful football. Now is the only time he should ever be questioned as his big players are leaving and no one is coming in. But because of their wage struture and dept they are unable to compete with Liverpool, Man City, Utd, Chelsea who are paying millions and offering huge salleries for players like Aguero, Suarez, Torres, Young. The only thing as a football fan i can blame him for is not signing a centre half or more ecperience. 7 thophies then created millions for the football club while keeping them in the champions league. How can he EVER be critizised and sacked? All the amazing players we've seen over the years were brouht in by him and made profit off by him. The reasons they have such high expectations is because of the trophies he brouht in, how can pundits expect Arsenal to be winning trophies every year when they 5 other teams spend 100's of millions (incliding spurs a cupple of seasons ago) when Arsenal bring in 100's of millions and pay for their stadium? Fabregas in 500k, 7 great years out 35million...

If anyone thinks Arsenal are in crisis or that Wenger has "lost it" they know f*** all about football.
