Marvelous

Blaine is a quarter of the way through his 44-day stunt
A man has been arrested after allegedly trying to cut cables coming out of showman David Blaine's box.

The man, in his 40s, climbed a tower and scaffolding next to where Blaine is being suspended from a crane in London early on Tuesday morning, said Scotland Yard.

After throwing water bottles and other objects from the tower he tried to cut power and water lines - without success - a police spokesman said.

He came down at 0518 BST and was held for criminal damage.

The unnamed man is currently being held in custody at a south London police station.

Blaine is taking part in an endurance test, staying 30 feet (nine metres) off the ground in his plastic box, with only water, for 44 days.

Blaine, 30, who has taken part in similar feats in the US in the past, is 11 days into the London stunt.

He has also been taunted by people hitting golf balls at his box, a female spectator partially stripped off beneath him and he has been woken by drumming.

Laser pens have been shone at him - which reportedly caused concern because he thought they may have been from rifle sights.

Tormentors have also thrown eggs and bananas and even sent a burger up on a remote-controlled helicopter.

At the nine-day stage, using a microphone in his box, he said: "I like watching people eat, actually" - but said he was thinking about food a lot.

"When you go without eating for nine days... I start thinking about the most specific things that I eat... everything that I've ever eaten that I ever liked," he said.

"I close my eyes and see those vivid images, it's just like I'm really eating it. I mean, detail by detail, you see it too... and this is only nine days."

He also said the feat was "getting tough" and said: "I wonder how much longer 'til my mind goes away.

"Not permanently - but before I go a little crazy. I'm starting to laugh a lot - obsess about really weird details and stuff."

Some local residents have complained about traffic coming to a standstill on Tower Bridge as motorists slow down to look at the stunt.

Blaine's endurance challenge - dismissed by some critics as an illusion - is being televised by Sky One and Channel 4.

Lets get something straight. What the f*uck has how much money he is or isn't getting paid got to do with anything ?. He is a showman/magician and that is his trade. Now if he has managed to get a TV company to pay £ 5 million, then good luck to him. What the f*ck has it got to do with you ?.

This " he's not doing it for charity " , therefore lets slag him off is boll*cks.

Albion Dan - Do you work ? , if yes why don't you give all your earnings to charity ?. Answer that

Should Beckham give all his earning to charity ?.

You lot are all sheep , BAAAAAAAAAAA, BAAAAAAAAAA, Knock Blaine because he's doing something different and he is unusual, BAAAAAAAA, BAAAAAAAAAA :jester:

Its f***ing ridiculous that this is getting so much attention.

I don't like what he's doing but i won't argue with it i just won't pay attention to it as that is what he wants.

Bollocks, writing this has f***ed that eh?

Chapman - we've had this argument.

He is a showman, off course he wants attention, Rock Bands play concerts to get attention, Film stars make films to get attention, ie sell tickets, same as anyone in the entertainment industry , including the Albion players.

Seems its one rule for everyone else and one rule for Blaine.

My problem is that starvation should not be used as a form of sensationalist entertainment. Just think of the images of children dying of hunger or the images of people starving themselves for their political ideals (whether we agree with those ideals or not) and then look at this grotesque farce. I have no problem with people being different and had no problem with some of the other things that he has done but I find this offensive.

Starving yourself half to death for £5 million in front of the public is an extremely immorale thing to be doing when:

a) there are millions starving who have no f***ing choice and dont get any money from doing it

b) There are 1'000s of immpressionable people who aready think they should starve themselves just because of vanity/mental illness

To be honest I couldnt give a shit what he does, but I have no sympathy if people goad and take the piss, I find it funny in fact.

Hes displaying his tedious feat in front of all and sundry, just like any street entertainer and if people dont feel entertained or dont approve they have every right to show their displeasure any way they want to.

dan, I see your reasons and fair enough but I dont really agree. You were talking about sympathy. I havnt seen him ask for any sympathy if thats what you mean. Im sure he has prepared for the heckles etc.....
