TBH its only following the path laid down by others.
Major content in the FT online has to be paid for.
If you live outside the UK and want to read the Times on line you have to pay for it.

One major question though is does a regional paper have the same desirability of the FT?

I think the answer is no to that, but if advertising revenue is small, and I doubt they were making more thn a couple of grand a year from their online advertising (after costs of getting it there) how many £60's a year do you need to make that up?

Yeah but its still bang chuffin out of order.
I also think they take a hell of a lot more in Advertising revenue than a few grand a year, the airline I work for alone contributes a 5 figure sum to 'local media' coffers for 'regional electronic advertising' in the South.

The Arsegas was alright now and again but I'm damned if I'm paying them 60 quid a year.

They've got a fecking nerve-works out at 21p a copy/day.

The printed version is 32p per copy. Factor in production costs for the print version and they're seriously taking the piss with the online edition.

Sad thing is, it looks like the free ride on the internet is coming to an end..........

Given that they have only two contributors to the 'fans forum' part of the site, would be surprised if anyone signs up at all

shop in waitrose, get your trolley, park it by the newspaper stand, browse for 20 minutes then shop at leisure

Is that 21p a day based on seven days a week? Because I don't think they have a Sunday edition do they?

6 days (their quote, not mine)
