Used to go a fair bit as a kid, when did it shut down and was it because a couple of bears escaped?

That brings back memories! It was the biggest treat we had when I was a nipper, Hotham Park Zoo, of course you didn't notice the "shabbiness" of it when you were young. The other "treat" of course was Butlins, that was probably shabby too but all I can remember is warm sunny days in exotic Bognor!
