that in phone numbers everyone treats a 0 as an o?
ie. o1273, instead of 01273
(talking about in speech not in written)
or is it just me?:(

The gym then Maccy D's was Moggy's idea of having a laugh, I havent been there since that night we got largered down his gaff. The tips I give Steve are one's I'm just passing on they are not my own ones!!! Oh, and the zero's thing is probably because they are talking to yanks everyday at AMEX. Fancy a round of golf 2moro morning??

Ever noticed that many people in Britain use Celsius when talking about cold weather ("It's going to be minus four tonight - better cover the plants", but Fahrenheit when it's hot ("It's going to be in the nineties tomorrow").

:dunce:

iTS an oh not a zero - thats to american. i always say ohh 1273
but it shouldn't be- 'o' is a letter not a number- zero- or maybe even nought(sp?)

but although i do use 'oh' i'm not sure why i do so

chez.... it means the same with a telephone number.

what is weird is my dad when he repeats his own mobile number he starts by saying "oh" halfway through turns it into naught and then says zero 8 zero. three ways. it just makes me laugh.

In the Forces when signalling zero is always used but when I give out my telephone number I use both

It's Oh 1273 then in the middle I say zero

I hadn't thought about it before.

Thats typical British for ya. You always find that we go to extremities when describing things. e.g. every time its hot it is always "the hottest day of the year".

You'll find likewise that everytime the temperature rises to the level where people like to go to the seaside, it turns out that the rail industry has unwisely invested in tracks made of a metal that bens and buckles at temperatures lower than that of the curry sauce at Withdean. Also, the grass at the side of railway tracks will spontaneously combust due to the extreme heat, tho funnily enough the grass everywhere else never does.
