After our fantastic rise to the league one summit, Ive come to really appreciate what it feels like to be top of the league at the moment, which leads me to believe with 3 promotions in 4 years at the start of the century, that maybe we were a little spoilt and expected too much over the past few seasons? For instance you've only got to look at Rochdale who before this season had spent the past 50 odd years in the same division seemingly going nowhere to realise how difficult it can be to get promotion in the football league, anyone agree??

That's a bit of an exaggeration. I remember us drawing with Rochdale to win promotion from the 3rd division in 1972 (and Rochdale didn't get relegated that day). And I think Rochdale are a bit of an exception - I haven't done the research but I wouldn't mind betting that over, say, a 20 year period, most of the teams in the FL have got a promotion somewhere along the line.

Rochdale played 36 consecutive seasons in the Football League's bottom division from 1974 to 2010, the longest time any team has been in the bottom division of the League, with some even derisively renaming it "the Rochdale Division".[2] The club have the lowest average position of all the clubs which have existed continuously in the Football League since its expansion to four divisions in 1921-22 (76th), and since its expansion to 92 clubs in 1950-51 (79th). Additionally, they share with Hartlepool United the distinction of having played the most seasons in the Football League without ever reaching the top two tiers (82 seasons through 2009-10).

Season 2009/10 ended a 41 year wait for promotion with a win over Northampton Town FC as Rochdale secured the third automatic promotion spot. Rochdale continued their progression under Keith Hill, now with the club for 3 years, with a secured spot in League One in 2010/11 despite a disapointing end to the season.

.

Exactly. 36 isn't really close to 50. And the fact that people can joke about the "Rochdale division" suggests being rooted to one division isn't that common.

Either way, it is 9 games. The glaring fact is, we need someone up front with BARNES not murray in my opinion(someone with real quality) Jay DeMerit would of been a good buy in my opinion. I feel it really will cost us this year if we do not start banging more goals in, overall though i am overjoyed. Spoilt? No. Waited nearly half my life for Falmer so i am F'kin thrilled but no more than we deserve.

Had we gone to Falmer in 2004 (as I think was the original plan) we might have been able to keep the momentum up.
