I hate to break this to you but I will away for 7 days from Saturday so you will have to cope without my incisive comments and analysis.

Anyone been to Minorca and if so please recommend the sights to see. We are going to Son Bou which has a nudist beach as well.

Happy days.

I think our very own Dave the Gaffer thinks it's the best place in the world.

(Any hot bets for the bull fighting?)

nice place, check out the capital Mahon, find out if there are any Fieastas going on while you're there cos they are great fun, and huge piss ups. (BTW, not Ford Fiesta, or the girlie mag Fiesta, it's Fiesta as in Festival)

We are going on Friday to Arenals de Castell just north of Mahon.

Last year we went to Caln Bosch

Son Bou is very nice, the sea is warm...the ladies are dark and dusky...in fact its fabulous

Have a great time mate.

If we are in the area we will pop over and we can quaff Sangria until it comes out of our ears

PM me and I will give you my phone number

Gaffer

I have been to Calan Porter 3 times but that was 15 years ago.

We must meet up in our Albion tops for a few beers one day.

We stayed at Son Bou a couple of years ago. Very nice. As well as the places mentioned you could try Fornells (sp) which has a nice resturant overlooking the harbour. We hired a car which meant we got round the whole island - it's not very big. Don't feel you've missed out if you don't visit the, um, well I can't remember what it's called (bulls seems to ring a bell) but it's the highest place in Minorca. There's a church and a bit of a view and that's it.

I have been there a few times (about 4 times a year) in the last few years. Have a few recommendations:

1. Hire a car
=============
- you save a lot instead of going on tours etc, and you can get out of Son Bou in the evenings.

2. Nights out:
==============

Mahon Harbour - Fri/Sat night (bars opposite the ferry terminal are excellent, especially the rooftop one up the slope a bit).

Cala en' Porter - Club - Cova den Xoroi http://www.covadenxoroi.com/ is excellent - Thurs (foam night) but good on Fri/Sat and Wed night, where they get DJs over from Ibiza and the UK (had some bloke from Brighton last week).

Es Castell - "Cala Fonts":
Excellent for an authentic meal out by the harbour, overlooking the entrance to Mahon Harbour. Reccomend El Chivito for Tapas or Trebol for fish. Sirocco does an excellent €9 set Menu del Dia (lunchtime set meal - 3 course including wine, bread and dessert).

3. Beaches
==========

I'd recommend:

Son Bou (make sure you get there on Sundays, as the locals come out).
Cala Alcafar (small picturesque inlet)
Santo Thomas (the beach the 'other side' of the hotel)
Other beaches like Cala Tequeta etc. which are a pain to get to, but really nice.

Day Trips (by car)
==================

- note that in the towns, the shops are open from 9-1.30 and 6-8.30.

Mahon - Shopping is quite good - small shops including sports shops and a good Lacoste shop (oi!oi!). Try out the Gin factory by the ferry port (free entrance and you can try the local licquers)

Ciutadella - the old capital - again, nice shops and old cobbled streets etc.

Mont Toro - an old monestary and highest peak on the island. worth going up there for a few hail marys or for the view

Fornells - old fishing village. reccomend eating the Menu del Dia upstairs in the Hostel Fornells (on the roundabout) - the waiter has no front teeth, but I hear it's very good. Reccomend going to Cap de Cavalleria on the way back to/from Fornells - follow the signs off the main road to Fornells. Worth looking at.
