I should mention I had a couple of mates who were internal audit

I remember putting the costs together of a large project, being a good few million over 3 (ish) years and giving it to the finance director of a large company to 'handle them'. He had the figures for about a month and then gave them back confirming my figures. I remember saying you're a f***ing Finance director not a calculator, I can add up

He was gone a couple of months later.

Because of the Lion Tamer legacy, most of the accountants I meet in life seem to go out of their way to drop in some seemingly exciting extra curricular activity they are involved in to the conversation. It's a profession that has carried that chip on it's shoulder for decades! Apart from the downright crooks of course. Amazing how an honest request for advice by the OP has ended up here. NSC at it's best.
