Ralf Schumacher to sign for Renault
Says his manager Willi Weber

Ralf going in another direction?

Ralf Schumacher is to leave the Williams-BMW Formula One team and sign for Renault for next season, according to his manager.

Willi Weber told Tuesday's edition of Bild newspaper that he and the younger brother of six-time world champion Michael had agreed all the details with Renault supremo Flavio Briatore.

"We have agreed every point of the contract with Briatore," said Weber. "The signing of the contract is a mere formality."

Ralf, 28, has been unhappy at Williams for a while and even with the impending departure of Colombian team-mate Juan-Pablo Montoya at the end of the season for McLaren - and the expiry of his own contract - he is keen to leave.

Schumacher, winner of six races in 116 Grands Prix, had launched a broadside at the team's boss Frank Williams at the end of February over his ongoing contract negotiations.

"Even if me and my manager Willi Weber would find it hard to leave behind our friends at BMW, there's a chance it could happen. It would be sad but I can't allow myself to be treated like that by Williams," said Schumacher who finished fourth in the season opening Australian Grand Prix on Sunday.

"I'm not frustrated. But I find it hard to understand certain things that have happened these past few months." Schumacher claimed that Williams accused him of only being interested in money. "Frank Williams says I'm nothing but a money-grabber. I can only laugh at that. He knows that I would accept to cut my current salary in half," added Schumacher, who finished fourth in the drivers championship last season.

as a williams fan it does seem to annoy me that both montoya and schumacher are therefore leaving, just when they had raised themselves from the terrible period of the red(woodywoodpecker covered)car. but then again renault are on the up and are now a very respectable team indeed

Yeah, right. And I'm a chinese immigrant scraping molluscs off the pier.

He's not good enough to beat his brother. Montoya proved last season that he could compete with Michael Schumacher and Ralph cant' and now Ralph's throwing his toys out of the pram because Frank Williams has probably told him the same.

Renault is a step down from Williams so why would he want to do that?

At the moment I would say yes, how close did Renault come to making a bid for the World Championship last season? Quite a way behind the Williams and McLaren.

yes it is most definitely a step down, but RS has had his chances and not really capitalised . . . .like DC really

hopefully it would pave the way (assuming he keeps up the good effort) for Jenson Button to return to Williams and have a good stab at the title, with Raikonnena nd Montoya at McLaren it could make for a great

Mark Webber looks likely to be at Williams next year. I'd like to see Button back there too, but he's got a long contract with BAR and that is looking a pretty good car at the moment.
DC needs results this year (which I don't think he'll get) and could end up at Toyota.
Ralf seems to have a mental blockage about living in his brothers shadow.

As long as someone challenges Schumacher the elder and Ferrari I won't be too bothered. Like to see Button and Montoya challenging but I'd settle for anyone to stop it being the boring procession it was last week. Except the other Schumacher

His departure along with JPM, will allow DC and MW to join Williams. DC will be replaced by JPM, I can't see KR going.....MW will want to move up and Jaguar havn't really got much to offer. Next years line up will be seriously different. Lets hope this season picks up and it wont be a procesion every race.

I cant see JB going back, he has pledged his allegence to BAR and they are improving rapidly, he knows if he went back and didn't produce the goods he would be axed.....like last time. He is far safer at BAR.

ha ha . . .COulthard wont get back in at Williams . . .too pricey for Frank, I think if BAR keep up the progress Button will stay

Weber will move onwards and upwards, I'd very much like to see Klein fail miserably and perhaps Firman or Wilson get another bite, Its shit that talent doesnt play a part in proceedings . . .only money, thats not motor racings heart, which Is probably why more people watch club racing and BTCC and F1 is going down the swanny in europe

The only way to improve it is either completely remove all electronic driver aids and or has the same car across the board as in Indy.......Then talent will show.

driver aids are killing it, everyone knows the top 12 or so could drive as fast in a real car, and it would look better to us seeing them really push the cars to their limit and have total control . .. . . . .it would definitely sort the men from the boys though . . . .and thered be more spins !

It would improve the reliabilty as well....many people are dropping out through a fault in one of the very many complcated electronic systems.

angry: What you mean Renault is a step down, Renault are once again going to be future World Champions, and having an inside eye to the team i know for sure that the R2004 (new car) is the most suceessful renault have ever had and is better then the MP3-19 (Mclaren), therefore to have a ralf and fernando in the same team will boost dirver status and team point as you have a chamipon in the making (ALONSO) and the experience to back him up (SCHUMI), i know this is'nt final as ralf changes his mind as much as a cabbie trying to get into london, but i feel its a good step although i will be sad to see trulli, go who's now likely to have a seat back at Jordan or with BAR!

Any information on Reanult wanted let me know!
