Jim White has always been a fine writer and a good guest on Fighting Talk. You just have to hold your nose, close your eyes and ignore the news section of his "paper".

If you go via Google (ie search for the article title and click through) you invariably swerve the paywall and/or reader mode in Safari (if you use Apple devices) will also render the entire article free of clutter.

I especially liked the observation that Chelsea had poached Potter under the misaprehension that he was the sole architect of our Success, rather than it being the entire system, an error that so far has cost them best part of 85 million pounds

Yes, observant article and helpfully not that instructive to other clubs.

The ‘system‘ is described as the root of success without defining what that is. It could be in part stability and long term thinking but those are characteristics of, not a strategy or plan, of what’s done that now seems to be working.
Presumably, the ‘system’ includes fans such as us, but apart from winning the next game, any club run by a private equity concern, listed company, or sovereign wealth fund doesn‘t have much of common interest to systems of relevance to its fan base.

Nice last line. RDZ' s message to Trossard - 'We are Brighton. Everybody has to give 100%' was him advertising his awareness that it's the process that matters.

May be paywalled but plenty of online ways to get around that ;)

Telegraph still do their paywall through the front end (ie, in the browser) and haven't got around to putting it out of reach in the back end (ie, on the server side). Specifically, they use javascript to implement the paywall on top *after* already delivering the full article to the browser. So all you need to do is use a browser extension to disable javascript. (or any other technique that bypasses the javascript. Suspect the Google trick works because search engines don't like javascript, so Telegraph are providing a search-engine friendly version that Google is then delivering you direct to instead of via the javascript).

Pessimistic Stat can't help thinking all this press is turning the Leicester match into one of our customary trap games.

The one game we never win, the win that moves us up a tranche, puts us top for 24 hrs, just 'that' game.
