As El Pres has a moral dilemma I have one too although its not a moral issue in my opinion.

What it is is this, with my current job once they have finished sending me all over the country I should be working in London for a while but finishing at 2AM. As it is I can't park anywhere in London not to mention the congestion charge so public transport is my only option.

Now here's the dilemma, in London there are some nasty people, (I'm only one of them). As it is I stand a reasonable chance of being mugged or attacked at 2AM in the morning I reckon.

As it is I have in my possession two items that are illegal here but perfectly legal in other countries. Now I am thinking about carrying them and would use them in a defensive capacity if I had to, am I wrong ?

What area of London are you in? If it's anywhere in the center then there is loads of parking and absotutely no chance of getting mugged. If you're in a place with lots of dodgy estates like peckham or broadwater farm then it doesn't hurt to have some CS gas or a stun-gun (i'm assuming that's what you have)

No, read above, apart from the congestion charge I won't be able to park at the places I'll be going to and its the public transport that is where the trouble is most likely to be.

As it is one of the items could kill somebody if they have a heart condition although my opinion is if you attack me then tough shit.

Not sure, the police, CPS, jury or judge will see it like that. But you could test the theory...

If they're illegal, you'll obviously be done if the Police find them, whether you use them or not.

So, yes, you're wrong.

London's not unsafe at 2am if you keep your wits about you.

Oh I agree with you. Funny how in this country you have to get hurt not to be the bad guy. Somebody has a go at me for no reason I am going to do all I can to make sure that he or them go down and stay down though.

Self defence is a bit more complicated than some people would think.

Having lived in London for most of the last 24 years, can I be the first to call you a great big drama queen GAYER.

You are not any more likely to get mugged or attacked in London than you are in Brighton.

To be honest you're worrying about nothing. If it's within the area of the congestion charge then there won't be anyone around at two in the morning. I've had to drive to sites in London quite alot and there are always places to park that are within walking distance of where you want to go and that is in the middle of the day. There is a good long stay carpark underneath london bridge on the north sideof the river, just get a cab or bus back there at night. How are you going to get back to worthing at 2am without a car?

Well of course as I've lived in London too I think you're a twat, I have been attacked and hospitalised for no reason in broad daylight near Bank. I got stitches he got three months. I also know others that have had the same thing happen in other areas. Its academic where but unless you live in a cave you'd know that people get mugged all the time, a colleague of mine was last week.

Its an odd thing though as we have in fact been warned about it by our company, a large multinational. I know these two souvenirs do work because a 6' 6" but brainless family friend dared me to use one on him, he's a big guy and it brought him down.

As it is I think its not that likely that anybody would have a go at me as the people who know me will know that a mugger would be looking for easier pickings. However a drunk or drugged individual such as my attacker is a different matter and I think that if I was attacked I'd very much regret not having something to defend myself with, be it illegal or otherwise.

I'm with Dandyman on this: I lived in London for 24 years, in some rough areas, and I wasn't attacked/mugged/robbed once; nor do I know anyone who has been. And as I don't drive, I've not been travelling in a safety bubble either.

I've had far more trouble in Brighton.

I'd say that in London, you get crime because there are poor people who turn to crime: Two girlfriends of mine have been mugged while walking home in south London in the past 6-7 years, as have two male colleagues. I'd say that in Brighton, it's more yobbish crime, for want of a better term: drinking and public order offences etc.

As has been asked before - where in London and why can't you park?

And how will you get back to Sussex at 2am without a car?
