Another bizarre sending off

I think it was the action of Herd trying to shake his leg free which looked to the lino like a stamping action.

This is why referees and linespeople should be held accountable. A ridiculous desicion that contributed to costing Villa the match. As for the fact Hutton nearly broke Longs leg and got the same as Scharner showing off his West Brom t-shirt...

In a sense, I agree with Roy Hodgson's view as expressed on MOTD last night - the Herd incident was never a sending off, but Villa as a team did deserve to play out the game with 10 men after Hutton's initial challenge on Long.

I am not sure that it wasnt a red card according to the laws of the game, as he attempted to free his leg and in so doing stamped on the WBA player. If more refs and linos did this perhaps the players would untangle themsleves quicker and cleaner in the future. Agree the Hutton incident was a definite red card or should have been. Because he was booked the FA cannot do anything about it now in retrospect.

But by that logic, players will deliberately entangle themselves to force the "pulling away" motion. Put it this way, if a Brighton player got sent off for it, I'd be furious, not because Its a Brighton player, but because its not, and never will be a foul (let alone a sending off)...

The retrospective punishment impotence is embarassing by the way.

Herd's card card will almost definitely be rescinded ......he did absolutely f*** all. will it get villa a point ......obviously not , the referees are out of control , Dowd and Atkinson are the worst culprits.......Clattenburg bottled sending evra off tonight ........ it is the common consensus amongst educated fans that wanky refs are ruining the game.

Bosingwa sent off for Chelsea, another weird decision.

Yep.

Not sure what angle the referee had on it, but that was more a 50/50 shirt pulling competition than a clear goalscoring opportunity, which is what he must have assessed it as to produce the red card.

That was red as Bosingwa was shirt pulling not SWP and he pulled him to the ground when a one on one at goal.

And Drogba now red carded

Well, the red should have only been shown for denying a clear goal scoring opportunity. It didn't look to me like SWP had possession of the ball, so it couldn't have been a clear goal scoring opportunity, could it?

Drogba's was a red.

Disagree but there again it is all about interpretation

I agree.

Drogba should be fined. I think Chelsea would have still won with ten men.

Missed MOTD last night, only just watched the Chris Herd sending off on this mornings repeat. I was at work at the time, and dropped everything I was doing to squint at the TV to try and find out why he'd been sent off. I'm still none the wiser.

I thought RH agreed with the decision. He then went on to say he had no sympathy over Villa's objections because Hutton should have gone earlier!

Hutton was'n't booked for the tackle that for an incident shortly after so the FA could look at that incident again.

He did indeed, hence why I said I agree with him in a sense - I disgagree with him re: the Herd sending off, but agree with him that Villa deserved to be a man down.
