Keith Andrews warms up at The Amex
ALBION newcomer Keith Andrews has warned against the danger of too much expectation this season after the losing start under Oscar Garcia.
The Seagulls have suffered successive 2-1 defeats in the Championship following Saturday’s setback against Derby County at The Amex.
Andrews, who made his debut as a second-half substitute on a season-long loan from Bolton Wanderers, told The Argus: “There is a danger (of over-expectation) because you see it at quite a lot of teams.
“Teams that come up to the Premier League have a good season, then the following season they don’t do so well, then the fans start turning and getting on the manager’s back, and then possibly there’s a manager change.
“So I think it’s very important everybody sticks together during this time because there has been a lot of change. It’s certainly clear there’s been a lot of change from what I hear behind the scenes as well, so it’s something that everybody needs to stick with – the fans and everybody, the people around the place, and I’m sure with the manager in charge there will be success.”
Andrews believes it is just a matter of time before Albion are back on track after last season’s fourth place and turbulent summer, dominated by the sacking of ex-boss Gus Poyet for gross misconduct.
The 32-year-old Republic of Ireland international midfielder said: “This club has been on a rollercoaster the last few years, in terms of fans and people around the ground being used to success and the style of play.
“The manager’s come in as an unknown I suppose. I don’t really know all the ins and outs, but I’m sure the manager’s working very hard, the group of players he’s got is very talented and it’s a hard-working group of players, which I’ve seen first-hand from playing against them.
“So I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before we get the results.”
