Their efforts to avoid being booted out of the league resurface on the 9th December and, if they fail ( and they have had two extensions already ), that match will prove to have been their last ever home league game. We have potentially all witnessed the last rites as they are away next Saturday and the following week away to Gravesend in the cup...very appropriate!

I saw an interview with their captain on East Midlands TV a couple of weeks ago about their survival chances on Dec 9th and, give you a clue, he did not sound remotely optimistic.

Could be that we will be 3 points lighter in due course but, thereagain, so will a number of other clubs.

It would be a pisser to lose the 3 points but in comparison to losing your club......nearly done that and it depressed me throughout the week as well as the w/e for about 3 years. Cannot imagine what it would be like if the Albion had folded, I always expected something good to happen and eventually it did, so fortunately I never found out.

They will be saved. Something will turn up, it always does for League clubs. Specially a club of their stature - they're not what I'd call "tinpot", and they have a decent stadium.
It might be last minute stuff, but something will happen to keep them going, just as it did at Bradford, Oldham, Leicester etc etc.

something must turn up 4 them. cannot believe we could lose the oldest club in the world. and also the 1st team to have the idea of selling replica shirts. (when they sold a full strip to juventus) to replace their tatty old kit. thats why they still play in black and white to this day. somebody will come in, just hope they dont leave it to late.

Now they can't even sell replica shirts in their club shop - as the receivers wouldn't allow money to be spent on buying them. Even though the profits were good (apparently lots of people would have bought a final souvenir), they couldn't trade.

It really makes you wonder if they won't go under after all. There just seems like a feeling of acceptance of whatever's going to happen - like a condemned person in their last few days.

Supporters of Maidstone and Aldershot would dispute the first sentence. Notts County may have a nice stadium and long tradition, but that doesn't make any club immune from financial mismanagement/misfortune. The creditors don't take tradition and romance into account. Will they survive? I hope so. Many clubs have been bailed out at the last minute in the past. One day, the luck will run out for one club though.

With due respect to Maidstone and Aldershot, they really were lower-league "tinpot" clubs. Maidstone sold up and moved to Dartford, which effectively killed off what was left of their meagre support, and once they had no ground it really was just a matter of time before they went under. Aldershot were "bigger" than Maidstone in that they had some League heritage behind them, but they can't be considered as "big" a club as Notts County.

I take your point that no clubs are immune to financial mismanagement or misfortune, but League clubs, particularly D2 clubs with the infrastructure of Notts County, are far more likely to muddle through somehow.

But if a club the size of County DOES go under, then god help us all, cos once one goes, that could well set the domino effect in motion.

From the Nottingham Evening Post:

"There remains a slim possibility that this could have been the Magpies' last match at Meadow Lane.

That is unlikely, given that the deal to secure the future of the club is all but complete.

But the Brighton fans were nevertheless inspired to raise almost #150 through a whip-round on their supporters' coaches on the journey north."

I should ask for your money back...
