Albion to change their name
Just found this on the official site;
“The Club is pleased to announce that with effect from 1st June 2004 they will be known as
“Hove and Brighton Albion FC”.
The change is necessary to meet recent local government legislation introduced to accord equal naming rights when two Borough Councils are jointly conferred City status.
Chairman D Knight stated “For nearly 100 years the Club was known as Brighton and played in Hove. Now that we play in Brighton, and hope to continue to do so at Falmer for the next 100 years, it is only fair that Hove should receive its fair share of recognition“.
Chief Executive M Perry added “The new company has been incorporated and the name registered at Companies House. The date is significant because the original club will celebrate its 100th birthday on 27th May. However supporters can rest assured that we have not, unlike a previous Board of Directors, changed the Articles of Association of the Club.”
Press Officer P Camillin commented “For years we supporters of the Albion have been used to looking for their results between Brentford and Bristol City. Now we are going to have to get used to looking between Hartlepool and Huddersfield.””
So what are the ramifications of that then? No more We are Brighton, We are Brighton, Super Brighton from the South., and We are Hove etc. doesn’t work.
Looks like we’re going to have to find out what the Leeds fans sing.
Any ideas, anyone?
