Listen, I am desperate to find out/confirm issues about the FA cup 5th round game at Anfield in 1983.

Was it:

1) The first Sunday game that Liverpool had played at Anfield

and/or

2) The first FA cup home defeat (sounds a bit far fetched)

2. I remember them saying at the time that it was their first home cup defeat since Middlesbrough in about 1974. Which is a bit strange as they won the Cup in 74. But it was the first home defeat for a long time, apparently, but not their first ever.

Could they not have won it in 73/74 then lost early in 74/75 ?

It's possible. Although the third round usually starts in January. Would have to look it up.

I did think that but don't know if its always been that way.

It was the first ever sunday game at Anfield.

Must confess that I thought that they hadn't lost a European or FA cup game at home since about 1966 at the time.

It was a fecking amazing day though, a bit like the Swindon game for nailbiting but against a GIANT of a team and we actually played well but were under the cosh pretty well the whole game. I only went because I reckoned it would be my last chance to see the Albion play at Anfield. We were nailed on certainties to get relegated.

We only went and pulled off another great 2-2 draw a few years later as well, didn't we :clap2:

Not forgetting of course winning 1-0 in the league in 1982 so the FA Cup win wasn't as big a shock as we had done it the season before.

I beg to differ mate, I was there for both games, and I know the 83 game had a profound effect on all of us on the day, was any of at Sherrys in West Street to see the grainy newsreel type replay of the game..... no TV coverage can you believe.

I am pretty sure it was the first FA Cup match ever to be played on a Sunday, anywhere, not just Anfield.

Because of the Sunday trading laws admission was by purchasing a teamsheet (which I still have)and I don't believe they sold any programmes, if they did I never got hold of one and I've got programmes for almost all the games I've been to.

Bloody marvellous day out!
