I apologise if this has already been discussed..I have looked...just cant find it.

But is anyone else annoyed about the Albion Home page and its (relatively) new look. Its awful, full of in your face adverts poor linking etc..

Why on earth are all the football sites generic with the colours changed to suit the club (mind you, when was albion's strip white?)...does the makers of the site pay a fee to the club? I was just wondering why we cant have independently made Internet sites..is it because its easier to get someone to do it for them?

And its true what someone said...the message boards are DEAD. Which is why I guess other forums are so busy. This one appears to the best and though and caters very well for albion fans.

This is what the football league said about ptv, after updating the contract in 2004.

After 4 years of operation, still not all league clubs were convinced it was "a win-win for both parties" (note that they seem oblivious to the third party - the fan-base!, maybe not signaturies, but highly involved).

I think the numbers are not very different now, but difficult to check.

ptv is now under the umbrella of 'perform group'.

From another club, I know that management can find the revenue distributed very attractive, and can be glad to be relieved from almost all IT responsibility.

Most clubs seem to just fit into the framework offered; makes for a quiet life. Many opt not to have a club forum at all.

BHA have taken up the current forum offering, and in so doing have all but killed off all the user-base that used the earlier system.

Some other clubs use a message board very similar to NSC's vBulletin, so it they don't have to be locked in to the ptv forum style, even if they accept the rest of the package.

It would be very interesting to know how the clubs that go independent get on, do they raise similar net revenue, do they build-up a better rapport with their fans, etc.

FOOTBALL LEAGUE AND PREMIUM TV AGREE NEW DEAL FOR WEB JOINT VENTURE

The Football League and Premium TV, Europe’s largest roadband sports publisher, have renegotiated the terms of their ‘FLPTV’ joint venture.

FLPTV was set up in 2000 and has developed into a successful partnership hosting 65 Football League club sites, seven Premier League club sites and four Football Conference club sites.

The Football League has now acquired Premium TV’s stake in FLPTV and agreed a three-year deal that sees Premium TV become a service provider.

Premium TV will continue to provide all 76 clubs with the same cutting-edge websites that deliver fans live audio match commentary, video news bulletins, player interviews, exclusive online goal highlights direct from the clubs, as well as subscriber generation and management for its “World” broadband subscription product, which is used across all 76 official club sites, plus mobile, betting and e-commerce services.

Richard Masters, Commercial Director of The Football League, said: “This is a sensible way forward for everyone involved. The League and its clubs will have greater commercial flexibility and the deal secures the long term future of the hugely popular club websites and the revenue potential they bring for our member clubs.”

Rod Henwood, Premium TV chief executive, said: “This agreement represents a new deal for fans, a secure future for official club websites, and guaranteed revenue for clubs. It further reinforces the Football League’s commitment to the internet, and highlights the thriving relationship between football and Premium TV. It’s a win-win for both parties.”

Thanks for that. Interesting to know.

Another point is the actual Premium section, where you pay to watch videos and commentry etc...

What a wash out...the video is poor quality and the commentry I can listen to for..free...on the radio. Why should we pay to line the pockets of a third party company.

I say..Albion...a fan out there I am sure would love to do an official site for free or very little money. I for one would love to help run parts of it as I am sure many others would and any money gained would go straight to the Albion...100% of it. After all how many people do websites as hobbies, or podcasts or Vidcasts as hobbies? Loads. The official sites forum could then link direct to here!!

Anyway I guess it will never happen and it will always be a bit naff on the official site.

Oh well
