Following on from the 'Good interview with Xavi in the Guardian' thread.

Good interview with Xavi in the Guardian

I wanted to talk about not only how Gus has changed our club with his style of play, but also how our new identity has made me LOVE playing football again.

I enjoyed playing football when young but i was constantly played to my weaknesses. Being a short bloke in a very direct English game I was soon shot for confidence and my love of playing football slowly diminished until Gus showed us all the light

Having watched the way we play it regained my interest into playing again and using this 'easy ball' tactic whilst having kick abouts in the park - I'm twice the player i ever was before - now sell confidence in buckets - and normally play twice a week at least.

The ridiculous thing about this all though for me is that football in England is slowly dying by not teaching players at a young age to pass the ball and work as a team like we do or as they teach in Spain for instance, we're obsessed in England with beating the man and dribbling with the ball instead of making the right decisions at the right time (examples being lennon, walcott)

I'm not slating Lennon or Walcott their both amazing talents with huge potential but what I'm saying is that if simply passing the ball about a bit can make Alan Navarro, Crofts, El Abd look like top league 1 and championship standard players then what could be done with potential like Walcott or Lennon...

Again I'm not slating Navarro, Crofts or El Abd they've looked so good for Albion under Poyet its unreal, however what I am saying is that this new style of play has turned them from 'on there way to league 2 players' to Championship standard players IMO

There is great potential in England, look at anyone who has a kick around at any park in England, there will be many who are brilliant with the ball at there feet and are great at beating the man, but will not pass the ball and will constantly make stupid costly decisions. (dean cox, jake robinson anyone!)

For me this is the reason we won't win anything nationally for a very long time and the reason why English football is pretty dire in general.

put it this way on potential Rooney is better then Messi, but Messi looks the better player because he's playing with a great team style, unlike Rooney who has 10 individual players around him.

Personally i would like to thank Gus for unknowingly re-instating my love of football lol, and i would also like to thank anyone who hasn't fallen asleep by now!

thats it... I'm finished lol

for the record Messi is currently far far superior to Rooney, however put Rooney in a Barcelona shirt and Messi in a Man U shirt and things would change some what providing you get Wayne to understand the Barca / Brighton game

Things would indeed change, because Rooney would go from playing each week, to watching from the bench if he's lucky, while the myopic British media who struggle to look beyond the Premiership, will be drowning in their own drool at Messi playing in "the greatest League in the World EVER!"

Notice how most Premiership, Continental and International teams have started to copy Brighton in their style of play.
The Albion have always lead the way and always will.
Style icons since the late '70's.

One minute you're talking about passing then you are making reference to one of the world's best who is that because of the things he does when the ball is at his feet!!!!!
