After hearing todays tragic news about a Legend that was brian Clough I thought I would share this story with people on here.
Many years ago when Notts Forest played The Albion down at The Goldstone I decided to take my girlfriend of the time as she was a Forest fan and loved Brian Clough.
On entering the ground we bought the programme and there in the Forest Line Up were all the big names of Robertson,Birtles,Lloyd etc,so she was all excited about seeing all these big names in the flesh so to speak.
Of course when they announced the teams over the Tannoy most of the big names in the side werent playing,so this pissed her right off!!
On our return home she decided to write a letter to Notts Forest and Brian Clough and ask him why all the names on the programme werent playing and how she had been looking forward to seeing them etc.
I just took the piss out of her for doing this and said she would never get a reply.
A week later a letter arrives thru the door from Notts Forest,upon opening it there is inside a hand written letter of apology from Brian Clough explaining why certain players werent playing and also asking her to return when Notts Forest were in town again so he might be able to meet her and thank her for her letter.
Top Man in my book and we will never see the like of him again
