I`ve just had a Chimay blue Truff. Please excuse me...empty stomach and all that

I'm to wait until Mrs T gets home in around half an hour before starting, on pain of death.

However tomorrow I am heading south of the border, and expect to be comfortably ensconced in the Kulminator at this exact time tomorrow, having tavelled via the Pelgrom and the Waagstuk (and possibly Pater's Vaetje if there's time)...

Are you sure you have not started already ?... either that or the pain is evident in your spelling ?

It's the drooling anticipation that's making the keyboard a little moist. Apologies.

oh heck, now you've got me thinking.... still got plenty of Chimay Blues but my heart is set on one of my dwindling Westmalle Tripels.....:p

It will be february before our gang get to sample the Kulminators wares but if its anything like our Brugge trip I`m sure we will find one or two of their brews that we can just about force ourselves to drink

A good time to arrive around then is the weekend of 7/8 March, thus making provision for a visit to the Zythos Beer Festival (ZBF - Bierlijst) in St Niklaas (15 mins from Antwerp by train) - the world's best beer festival(TM).

Better to stay over in Ghent or Antwerp however, as besides the festival St Niklaas is a right dump.

We`ve booked the eurostar tics now for feb but that was sloppy. The Zythos fest of course. We will be doing Orient away that weekend though I suppose. While you are around Truff do you know of a reasonably priced hotel in and around central Antwerp. I am organising it so they`ll expect the world for just a few euros. Any tips would be appreciated. Now for another Chimay.

I got whisked away to the pub just after seeing this.

If you don't mind sleeping in a generic room run by a big chain, the best value central hotel is actually the Ibis: Hotel ANTWERPEN Ibis Antwerpen Centrum: hotel reservation in ANTWERPEN

It's clean, it's efficient, and it's only 100m from the Oud Arsenaal. And if you book ahead you can get a room for €69.

To get cheaper you'd have to crash in one of the dives around the station or head into the suburbs.

If it's charming character you want, there are several in the centre, but the prices will roughly double. The Hotel Rubens has a great location about 10m from the Grote Markt: Hotel Rubens - Grote Markt - Antwerp
