Singapore Flyer, MSN UK News - news weather

Tickling the clouds at a height of 165 metres, the Singapore Flyer is the biggest observation wheel in the world. It's 30 metres taller than the London Eye and each capsule is about the size of a Singapore bus.

With a diameter of 150 metres (about the length of 87 Singaporean men lying down head-to-toe), one rotation takes about 30 minutes, during which time passengers will have travelled 18 kilometres:nono: around the circumference of the Flyer at 36km/hour.

To mark the Flyer's official opening, MSN UK News has compiled a gallery of stunning images of the whopping wheel.

Someone didn't study GCSE maths

I do believe their maths is possible. You are assuming that the people travel in a constant forward or backward motion - ie in just one direction. If, however, they went quickly backwards and forwards in a haphazard fashion until they had actually travelled 18 kilometres but only circumnavigated the orbit once, then they indeed would be travelling at an average of 36km an hour if it takes them 30 minutes to do it. So there.

They would, however, be violently sick.

That would be hell for people trying to get on at the bottom.
"Mummy? The pod keeps moving back and forth, when do I get on?"
"Well Jimmy, you are just going to have to guess and just jump for it"
:lolol:
