My son and his partner came down from London for the weekend in order to go. After seeing the weather during the day yesterday, they wimped out and went out in Brighton instead.

Managed to go yesterday, kept my nut down and all went off without a hitch. Behind enemy lines from about 3pm - hit a few pubs and got some funny looks when they heard my Brighton accent. Paying in British pounds did cause some issues, but we luckily managed to find a street vendor willing to convert to local currency.
All in all was a good night, but probably wouldn't go back for at least 12 months. Once a year would be enough for me.

Those will be the Lunduners who have moved in, Tarkwin Reece-Knickergobbler and his wife Saffie, the guy from TV who is a distant cousin of the Krays and the Dowager Duchess of Kingston on Thames and his husband Reginald.You make it sound as if they're all inbred. I suppose not everyone understands the tradition or can be bothered to Google the history.
Lewes did try to twin town with an Italian city a few years ago, it was going quite well till a newspaper ( Daily Mirror? ) got hold of the story. Plans were dropped soon after.

I envy you! Been twice - once about 30 years ago, and once about 65 years ago - and would love to go again, but sadly I don't think my back would be up to standing for two-three-four hours solid. That's if I could even get past the cordon put around the place on bonfore night these days.
