Due to start shortly and hopefully we will wrap the series.

Hopefully they will have the guts to drop KP. He serves absolutely no purpose at the moment and it sends out the wrong message to the fringe players if they are consistently ignored in favour of a batsman living off reputation instead of current form.

Drop (statistically) the best one day batsman in the world who is also now holding a vice captain role in favour of a less experienced player in the game that could clinch a series win in Sri Lanka for the frist time in DECADES?

No thanks.

I'm with Chapmans here... no way can you drop KP. Yes he's struggling, but he could quite feasibly pull a hundred out today to win us the match (and the series). You can't drop your best (by a fair distance) batsman, there's no sense to it. The people around him are making enough runs to keep him in there.

At the foot of the downs
Good morning and welcome to the fourth ODI between England and Sri Lanka from Colombo. England come to the capital with a 2-1 lead from Dambulla. Sadly, the media coverage of this series in the UK has been minimal as all eyes have been on the rugby World Cup in France. That might ... only might ... change if England wrap up their first ODI series win in Sri Lanka.

England field the same side for the fourth game in a row ... so still no place for Monty Panesar.

sensible is my view on that :)

Blimey, I'd never get picked if that were the case !!

Hardly a step backwards towards a scatter gun policy, if we would utilise some squad members that are already named in the touring party and deemed good enough to tour.

Would anyone consider dropping him for the last game of the series, if we were to win this match and he failed with the bat again? Or is he really undroppable?

Either way I would keep him in. One if he gets his eye in he can take a game away from the opposition and secondly if he is out of form, time at the crease can be a bonus as we have to go back out to Sri Lanka in December for a 3 match test series.

I would say that if anyone is undroppable it is Pieterson (along with the Captain but you actually can't drop him).

Sri Lanka to bat, that's the game won for them then.

England are useless, we'll lose by over 200 runs, no doubt

I don't see how changing a winning team, to drop our best player, who's also rated as the second or third best ODI player in the world is in anything other than a stupid idea

Winning teams change all the time if certain conditions suit certain players. Although that is clearly not the case on a tour such as Sri Lanka where pitch conditions are all pretty similar.

I wasn't being DEADLY serious and I certainly wouldn't have the guts to drop him, but no-one should be undroppable (other than the caption) if they are off the boil. Although, as UB suggested, that time at the crease will be beneficial, I still don't think anyone should be assured of a place in the starting line up.

Maybe there is an underlying reason for his poor form and dropping him would be beneficial? I am speculating...
