It's just a hobby, I'm often found taking photos with a bigger camera at Bognor or Littlehampton games when not watching Brighton.
I travel a lot as a tour manager escorting groups to sporting events, mainly cricket and some football. But I'm never allowed in with a large camera so I use a little Sony RX100 mk7 which fits in my pocket.
It's a great little camera and particularly good in low light when sometimes even the brilliant new mobile phone cameras struggle a bit with blur from distance.
I enjoy the challenge of trying to create a story. It's all a bit of fun and keeps me from worrying about unnecessary stuff.

I Have a couple of high end Nikon lenses perfect for sport photography for sale if you are interested? who knows maybe this could be the beginning of a new career path for you!

Have you ever used it in a concert situation?

Yes, but if you do so I would recommend that you get onto YouTube and watch tutorials with tips on how to use it (same with any camera, just search YouTube for the model of the camera).

My main camera for non-league games is a Canon 5D mk4 with a 70-200mm f2.8 lens.
I'd love to buy a secondhand Canon 400mm f2.8 lens but I can't quite launder the money past my wife to buy it (about £2500).

The new mirrorless range of cameras and lenses are amazing, half the weight and twice price. I can dream of one day being able to own the gear I would like. But I would need about £18K if I wanted to own a new Canon R3 and Rf 400mm f2.8 lens.
I know a few professional sports photographers who work very long hours for not much money.

The Nikon I am selling is a 300mm f2.8 and a 70-200mm f2.8 lens both beautiful lenses.
You are right about sports photographers poor pay. I would guess 80% of photographers sitting at the side of the pitch at games are not full time and have other jobs.

Slightly off track, but a nice little story to share...
In 2021/22 I had taken photos of a few Littlehampton games during the season as a hobby and had shared my photos with the club for their social media to help promote the club. Unfortunately small non-league clubs have no money to pay for photographers and depend largely on volunteers.

As it happens Littlehampton had a great run in the FA Vase culminating in a cup final appearance at Wembley. The club were kind enough to make me their official club photographer for the day, so I pulled a bit of a flanker and contacted Canon to have a test drive of their top gear for the weekend, 'testing' about £18K of equipment to see if I liked it.

It was the ultimate all the gear and no idea occasion. I was able to use the media room, and sit wherever I liked on the touchline.
As a bonus, the day was a double header with Wrexham v Bromley following the Littlehampton game in front of 42000.

For anyone interested, I’ve created a photo album of my 48 hours in Marseille.
The album is a mixture of pics from around the city and also from at the game.
An amazing experience for everyone who was able to be there with memories created that will last forever.

we had so much fun, it was so intense, so noisy, so colourful
and we have a point in Europe!

Yes - I've asked a couple of PL grounds and Wembley - and that's always been their deciding factor; does it have detachable lenses or not.
