Brighton Transfer Rumour Round-up: 18th April

An in-form striker link that could be difficult for Albion to get over the line, and a talented goalkeeper looks set to return.

Mohamed Amoura

Albion are reported to be interested in Union Saint-Gilloise striker Mohamed Amoura, along with a host of other Premier League clubs

The Algerian striker moved to USG from Swiss club Lugano in the summer of 2023 and has had an eye-catching first season in Belgium, with 17 goals in 23 appearances.

The estimated €4m paid by Union to bring 23-year-old Amoura to the Jupiter League is looking like a very shrewd piece of business.

Albion are currently unable to transact with USG as part of a UEFA investigation into multiple club ownership situations, which may mean another club can make a concrete move for Amoura before Albion and USG are permitted to transfer players again.

Carl Rushworth

A week is a long time in football. It wasn’t so long ago that Swansea manager Luke Williams seemed confident of retaining Albion loan goalkeeper Carl Rushworth for another season. But with Rushworth’s profile very much on the rise, being linked with a full England call-up, Williams has conceded that is now looking very unlikely.

“I think it’s going to be difficult for us to get him back here. I think it’s likely that he will be playing in the big league or he will be in the shake-up for that. That’s what I anticipate. He’s excellent.

Brighton Fan Discussion: 2024 Summer Transfer Window

“If he has a terrible pre-season and it all goes wrong, he will always be welcome back. But I think it might be difficult because of the level he is at and how much demand there’s going to be for him.”

It will be interesting to see the path Rushworth takes from here. With Bart Verbruggen now seemingly the first choice stopper for Roberto De Zerbi, will Rushworth become the new challenger for the jersey? Having two such young talented goalkeepers to choose from feels like a nice problem to have.
