Bloody Worthing!
I was I think the first NSC runner to tackle East Brighton; this makes me the 'Sussex Parkrun Tart' as I've now done all of them. 23.49 (69.77% AG) marks the course as quite a hard one and not for PB hunters. Of course one of the delights of the parkrun format is not only the friendliness factor (this one scores highly on that) but also the differing challenges of the various courses. The challenges of this one were: if many more turned up parking would be very difficult; it is slippery underfoot and a bit more rain would make it trail shoes only; many twists and turns and a bit confusing on which lap you are on (see below); and quite a few gentle slopes to negotiate.
Then the additional challenge of being a nob-head and forgetting my watch, finishing with a sprint only to find I still had a lap to go. Not a course destined to be a favourite but worth the trip. When your home ground is Worthing (well done Bob!) an away fixture becomes very hard!

PS saw a fresh-as-a-daisy looking @Bignuts presumably running home after doing Hove Park?

With 54 hours left in 2018 the inputter needs to work out how to prepare the table for 2019. Today’s 2 sbs have made me think of adding an extra column so we have a record of 5k sb for 2018, a 5k sb for 2019 and the 5k Pb. What do you think?

As said before the 5k dominates due to Parkrun records and my inability to run over 3 miles, if anyone would like to take over.....

Looking forward to getting faster next year and watching the NSC race for a sub 3 hour marathon. I’m sure it will happen.

What we did last year, knocky1, was start the year with people ordered by their 5k PBs. Up to you though.

By the way, put me out of my misery - what did I get wrong in the table? I've been playing spot the difference and I can't see it!

You had promoted Simgull one position too high in the standings.

I'd go with what we did last year too. Go with 5k PB's as the decider if the SB is even or hasn't been run.

Only spotted on the table as they are my immediate competition!

Thanks for table input

OK I'll delete all the 2018 5K sbs. Over the next few weeks there will be a flurry of new times and AG percentages. I'll be aiming to start the year with a first place in the AG rankings for the first time ever @GNT will obviously be running hard to prevent that.

Saved my longest run of the year (a pathetic 13.5 miles) until today. Described as a "grind" on strava by knocky1 and he's not wrong. Quite heavy legged after a hard Xmas running and at one point couldn't see. Does anyone else wear prescription glasses and run with them on? My choice appears to be either a blurry watch or steamed up glasses that direct every bit of sweat in to my eyeball. Went for the blurry watch option after nearly running in to a pensioner.

Happy new year all!

Contact lenses changed my life!

This.

I started wearing contact lenses when I used to play cricket. I tried wearing my glasses but it just didn't work. They're an absolute must for any sporting activity now.

A vote of thanks and confidence from me. I think this year there will be a number of contenders and it'll be closer than the previous two years. I think you'll make the early running (I'm out of form) and then you'll feel the hot breaths of others on your back. I'd like to be one of them. I certainly don't expect to hit any sort of peak over the next few weeks but - as ever - we'll see. Cheers!

I’m off the pace as well but sitting near 75%. A review of training shows that excess food, excess alcohol and little training seems to be the way forward.....

Plan your return to form well.

I think that's me done now for 2018. Whilst tempted to round up my annual miles I think it's best to declare on 1,136.64 (avr pace 7:28). Comfortably my highest number as I only just scraped 1,000 for the first time last year with a last gasp 14 miler on NYE 2017.

A good year overall and the extra miles helped as I've felt strong throughout. Didn't necessarily post the times in the first half of the year I was expecting but from late July onwards I've broken a number of PB's and performed well.

Started the year with a 2nd place at Hove Prom Park Run which alongside Peacehaven later in July remain my highest placings. Winning one is now a major goal for 2019.

Outside of Park Run I got a couple of 6th places in other races. One at the Bedgebury mile 10 and one at the ridiculously hot Trailblazer 10k.

July-Nov I broke 4 pb's across 3 distances (5k, 10k x2 and 10 mile).

During that time I also broke 90 minutes for the Barns Green half which I was really pleased with.

Enjoyed running this year and kept relatively injury free. Had a 2 week break with some issues near the achilles but otherwise I've been consistently hitting c.100 miles each month.

See you all around next year at the various races. We usually have a good turnout at the Weakest Link and Phoenix 10k if the World Cup isn't on so see you all then but hopefully before if we take NSC runners on a Park Run excursion. I reckon East Brighton could be a good one.

Well done big nuts. Great year and my sole contender for NSC SPOTY.

I ran less than half that mileage with my second highest annual total. Didn't quite achieve my plans but more a stepping stone year for 2019. Enjoyed the Brutal Moyleman, ran two steady 10ks and returned to the track. Achieved my highest AG and can sense a strong attack on a sub 20 5k for the first time in 10 years. Just got to get this stupid marathon out the way first....and remain injury free.

A quick check shows I’m at 981.3 miles for the year - can I be bothered to run 18.7 miles today? In a word - No!

I have entered Three Forts in May though so now have a target to aim for.

Happy New Year to all on the best thread on NSC and see you at the parkruns tomorrow.

Last run of the year done, shortish speed endurance session.

Poor year for me, no decent times set, all three planned A races missed due to injury and family circumstances, only 5 marathons run and none very well. Highlight probably the Amex race - great fun to do. Main aims for 2019 are injury avoidance and hoping to nail my first attempt at a 12 hour endurance event.

1,372 miles run....lots of elevation though. 500 miles or so down on last year, entirely due to about 3 months out in the Spring/early summer.
