Now if Brighton had a 300 year history of being an independent state, I might (just might) take your comment on board

How about Sussex then, which had a two hundred year history as a Kingdom, before being annexed by the Kingdom of Wessex?

Just the Brexit, thank you - which is all he is standing for. The nasty stuff can stay with UKIP, which is why hardly anybody will vote for it any more.

Brexit is the gate way to all the other policies.

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland has only been in existence for less than 100 years, the last 50 years of which in the Common Market or EU. So I assume it's the 50 years before that you go back to ???

This progress lark is a bugger isn't it ?

And we're off the Brighton point already?

You may regard the EU as "progress", others have reservations. We could even have a vote on it.

Ohhh

That is far from the only thing.

Farage is a dreadful tosspot:

* Channel 4 News alleged that the self-proclaimed scourge of the elite was in fact a “kept man”, afforded a life of personal luxury by the Brexit funder, Arron Banks. Evidence of invoices, emails and documents showing Farage benefiting from a £13,000-a-month, furnished home in Chelsea and a Land Rover Discovery, complete with driver, as well as receiving cash to help build his brand in the US.
* Hides where his party's money is coming from
* Supports Claire Fox (Brexit Party candidate) who defended the IRA bombing of Warrington
* Whips up hysteria by talking about the betrayal of the British people, yet has hypocritically forgotten that pre-2016 HE had said "a 52-48 result would be unfinished business"
* Has well-documented record of hostility to the idea of the National Health Service and his preference for a system of private insurance
* Describes Britain’s ban on handguns as “ludicrous”
* Admires Vladimir Putin.
* Is a fan of Donald Trump (polls show is disliked by two-thirds of Britons)

There are countless other stories of him being a complete turd, but this is the man who is apparently the vanguard of the betrayed British people? Baffling.

As pointed out above, that's a hundred years longer than the United Kingdom. We just need to build a Hard Border, put in customs posts, build lorry parks at all ports, put in IT infrastructure, design and build systems and recruit staff to manage the movement of goods and people across our borders ...........

An entirely sensible and feasible plan, I'm sure you'll agree

You unashamedly voted for Brexit and there ought to be nothing wrong with you making a choice based on the question on the ballot paper. You're now happy to leave the detail to the politicians who asked the question.

Nothing wrong with any of that. I'd now expect to be able to trust the politicians to act in the national interest and deliver the best outcome for the nation, yet we see nothing but self serving politicians high-jacking the process.
That's why a vote for any of the parties currently represented in Westminster, virtually all of whom have tirelessly worked to f*** up Brexit, is a wasted vote, just voting for more chaos.

Ohhh

Sorry, you've lost me.

What was the point of this post about 300 years, again ?

Now if Brighton had a 300 year history of being an independent state, I might (just might) take your comment on board

Of course, you could always revert to the line

We won, get over it

Lib Dems are the tactical vote for the Remainer. Will show the country that we want another referendum now that we fully understand the impact of Brexit, and it isn't to get £350m a day back to fund the NHS.

No. Brexit, once achieved, is the gateway to returning to normal politics in this country. Going back to voting for the party which overall best reflects your views. Currently Brexit is the only issue.

I can understand why you say that but I disagree with you. The only party with any clout working to **** up Brexit is the SNP, unless you count the dozen Lib Dems and single Green MP. Does anyone know what Labour even stand for? A vote for the Brexit Party will deliver a thumping "WE WANT TO LEAVE", but doesn't solve any of the problems. How can it? Most MPs are squabbling over HOW to deliver it, not whether to deliver it at all.

Now had the Brexit Party stood on a manifesto that was little more than "we will offer another referendum on 'Exiting the EU but remaining in a customs union' or 'Revert to WTO rules and negotiating from scratch'", I think that might have been helpful. Hell, there would be plenty of remainers who'd vote for that. But really, this is all about Farage bullying parliament into leaving the EU as a priority over and above the welfare of the nation, because HE wants to.

Heart says Green but will be going with my head and voting Lib Dem as the remain party with the biggest projection at the moment.

The good thing about PR is that tactical voting has less effect and therefor it is easier to go with your preferred selection.

I'm guessing it's only because of the success we have with FPTP that we haven't switched to it ???

And if he is questioned about his beliefs its all a conspiracy from the mainstream media. He is the victim, its straight out of the Bannon / Trump playbook.

Sad that the only thing they have on him is something he said years ago, and once again the whole incident was taken completely out of context. I'm still voting for the Brexit Party.

Mussolini's bad stuff happened decades ago. It doesn't mean he deserves rehabilitation in the public mindset.

In some ways this proves the point. As you said, that's ONE coalition in 60 years, and when it came to end which of the two parties was punished? That's right - the little one. They were hammered. And with hindsight, you really have to ask why.

The Lib Dems were born of the left, they have always represented right of Labour but left of center. Their manifesto was fairly left for them, mansion tax, tuition fees, no renewel of trident, scraping of nuclear power, environmental measures etc. etc. not met, not met, not met, not met...goes the tick boxes of what they achieved for their voters. Their natural position in politics is to oppose any politics right of center, not prop them up. Even the UN are now calling the policies of the coalition and this Tory government as comparable to that of Victorian workhouses.

The Tories weren't hammered because their only gripe from their voters was a few concessions. They didn't exactly make huge gains in 2015, only enough to get them over the line, hence May fancied another go in 2017.

The Lib Dems were punished only by those people who voted for one thing and got another. Tories voters largely got what they wanted, there was no punishment to be made.

HE wants to, yes, but WE want that too - or at least a majority of us do, as indicated by the result of the referendum. Parliament needs to be bullied into it, if that's what it takes to remind them of their responsibilities to keep their promise to respect the outcome.

There is an old saying (Indian in origin, I believe) which goes, 'My enemy's enemy is my friend'. Currently the Westminster politicians trying to f*** up and or thwart Brexit are my enemy.
