There's your problem - William Hill are a shit bookie. Paddy Power/Betfair Sportsbook are offering 17/1. The draw is a best priced 7/1 at Unibet.

Oh well, perhaps I'm a shite punter too - they probably wouldn't shed a tear if they lost my custom - I put in a tenner to have a flutter on the National last year, and I've still got about two quid left in my account! I'm not going to start having multiple accounts - one's plenty for me!

Where do I get 17-1? William Hill is only offering 12-1.
17-1 might just tempt me to have a very small flutter - is a very high price for what is essentially a two horse race.

A three horse race. It’s the result in 90 minutes. These odds were on Paddy Power

I’m just hoping they put out a side that can be got at a bit and hope they have a larger eye on the cl and league in many ways this would be the easier of the sides to play

I don’t know about easier of the sides to play, but I do agree that the fact they are juggling multiple priorities may help. They may also have the FA Cup down as a gimme and underestimate us? I genuinely think we have a chance, but we’d need several players to have a blinder and a large slice of luck. But it could happen.

The odds may be against us, but the example of our rivals from up the road back in 1990 shows that it can be done.

They beat Liverpool 4-3 (aet) in the semi-final at Villa Park, with the odds stacked heavily against them, particularly in view of their 9-0 thrashing at Anfield earlier in the season.

Although we have not been spanked so heavily by anyone (so far) this season (and only lost to Citeh 2-0 at the Etihad), we can believe that we can cause an upset!

You can play this game 2 ways

Try to keep it at 0 - 0 and try and nick a goal

OR

Play like 1980s Wimbledon 4-4-2 - Batter high balls into them and wait for knock downs, totally bypass the midfield and hopefully defend well too

The latter means playing without the wingers, which is something Chris seldom does

No, a two horse race. The possibility that they will tie increases the number of possible outcomes, but does not increase the number of horses.
Sure it does. The number of possible outcomes is pretty key when discussing whether 17-1 for one of those options is good value or not.

Of course you can try and take it too literally, in which case there are no horses, as this is football.

Wondering; were Liverpool a better team in 1983 than City are today?
Thoughts?

Three outcomes, two participants. Therefore a two participant/two team/two club race. Not three teams, not three clubs. And I agree there are no horse - so why did you mention them first yourself? I was merely using your own analogy to reply to your post.

But it's a saying, and in the context of horse racing, one of the horses always wins, so the number of horses is the same as the number of possible outcomes. It wouldn't make sense to look at the odds and think they're good in what's a 2 horse race, when there are 3 outcomes.

It was you that mentioned horses, and your analogy, you muppet:

Does the 1/17 reflect betting markets sentiment/cash flow, plus the bookies making it nigh on impossible for a high stakes punter to make anything from lumping a large sum on the huge favourites?
