In exciting ‘marginal gains’ news, Liverpool have hired a specialist coach that they hope will help quite literally propel them towards Premier League glory.
According to the Liverpool Echo, Jurgen Klopp has added Danish throw-in expert Thomas Gronnemark to his staff on a part-time deal.
Gronnemark has dedicated the past 15 years of his life to perfecting the art of the throw-in and currently holds the world record for the longest throw ever recorded at a positively gargantuan 51.33 metres.
He has also previously worked with FC Midtjylland in his home country, where he helped weaponise the team’s throw-in technique.
Midtjylland have showed that the long throw-in can be a weapon, if you can do it with the correct technique, precision and tactical awareness.
It’s very important that it’s a flat throw-in, because if it’s too high it’s easy to defend.
If you can make a long throw-in precise and flat, together with some tactical aspects, then it’s much easier to score.
As seen below, Gronnemark set his monstrous record using the ‘flip throw’ approach, though it remains unclear as to whether we’ll be seeing James Milner following suit anytime soon.

Why didn't Klippity Klopp look closer to home, given the number of pick pockets in Liverpool?
These geezers arms stretch from nowhere to relieve you of your wears.
He's missing a trick there :)

And why not? A 40 - 50 yard flat trajectory throw could be a potent weapon, especially as (I think I'm right here) you can't be offside direct from a throw in.

There is no offside offence if a player receives the ball directly from a goal kick, a corner kick, a throw-in, or a dropped-ball. ... An offside offence may occur if a player receives the ball directly from either a direct free kick or an indirect free kick :)

Can you please put that in 100 point font, print it out and put it on a board for me, because my son's team seem to refuse to believe it even though the coach, manager, parents and assorted volunteer linespeople keep telling them every week :lolol:

Neither did a West stand linesman, a few years ago, at the Amex, when we played (I think Burnley) Luckily the referee ignored him, and us fans laughed at him.

I think we could benefit from a throw in coach, to enable us to actually throw the ball to one of our players more often would be a start

I don't think it's just your son's team that doesn't understand it. I'm sure there must be ways of utilising a forward standing near the goal line ('goal-hanging') to receive a long throw, especially if the defending team are geared to taking a high line. I'm surprised someone hasn't set up in such a way as to deliberately use this rule - well, maybe they have, but I've never seen it.

When fit, Bruno throws in a very good ball. If we are attacking, he can reach the penalty area with his throws, quite easily.

Is he teaching them gimmicky throw ins, like the one with the forward flip into a throw in?

I can see it now. Players doing a Kazenga-like flip and cartwheel before launching the ball towards the penalty area.

Maybe we can get some decent throw-in routines: Player one grabs the ball, player 2 demands it, player one "sulks" behind him, player two makes as if he is going to do a long throw, does the run up, but rather than pulling the ball from behind his head and throwing it forward, he flicks the ball in the air and runs onto the pitch as player one steps up to catch the ball and seemlessly goes into a proper throw, to player two who now has plenty of space (the opposition all ran like dogs expecting the ball to be thrown long and are in chaos as they realise what has just happened), player two uses this chaos to his advantage to take the time to pick his pass and play the ball into the now unmarked players 3 and 4 to do a neat one-two into the penalty box. Boom. Goal!

We need AK to crouch down behind the opposition throw inerer, so when they step back they fall over.
