Juve aren't stupid. They've done their sums. This must make sense to them.

He is not a normal 33 year old. If he keeps up his level of performance for his 4 year contract then fair play. At least they know he will put every ounce of energy he has into being a success at juve, even of its just to win more individual plaudits. That's no bad thing.

It's rare that there's a deal which seems good for both parties, but in the case of Ronaldo it's probably true.

Juve have the one player that's likely to make the difference in winning the Champions League. Madrid have a profit on a 33 year old.

As for Mahrez to Man City... Bought for 400,000. Sold for 60,000,000. That's some profit even for a former PFA Player of the Year.

My Juve mate didn't have a good word to say about the diving **** when they played Real, however he has changed his tune now.

It will be interesting to see if he is as successful in Italy in a league that it generally perceived to be harder than the Spanish league although it is the Champions League that they have bought him for.

This. With Chelsea not in the UCL, and with the biggest club in the world having €100m to spend (at least), I can't see Hazard staying in England. Hazard has been one of the best players at the World Cup.

Sure the knock-offs will take a chunk out of the market, but because of that the market will have considerably increased.

What will be the resale recoup to Juve on Ronaldo?

Necessarily, a player’s transfer and wages, are a cost to a club. An investment to buy success on the pitch. It’s where TV and fans money ends up.

Ill informed guessing that his signing will be more than paid for by Adidas, shirt sale and memorabilia profits, is simply inaccurate. The writers for the broadsheets who’ve covered this myth so many times now, know far more than punters making up a fib.

Ronaldo has got to a higher top speed than any other player in the world cup at age 33 (according to the Guardian today). So not showing any obvious signs of ageing.

Clearly age will catch up with everyone, but he is one of the new breed of super athletes and I’m going to guess he’ll still be one of the most dangerous players in the world at the world cup in Qatar.

Despite the longevity I think he'll have, I’m not sure he’s a great signing for Juve. They’ll probably have to sell off their younger, hungrier players to meet FFP, the bandwagon and one man teamism that comes with him, they will probably find deblilitating and it’s hard to see what they are thinking their next level is. So they won’t have the same challenge for Serie A after the great Napoli sell-off, they would have won the league for the next few years with or without him. His goals might get them another round or 2 in the Champions League .. but take them all the way? Improbable.

They bought him for £80 mill, had 9 years of success then sold him for a £25 mill profit. That must be right up there with one of the best bits of transfer business in football history.

Re Juve - it feels like there's a hint of ego from the board on this one, a hint of desperation that they're still in that super elite band of rich clubs (now consisting of just Man Utd, Man City, Barca, Real, PSG).
