Mixed feelings from today. Firstly very happy to take 3 minutes off my previous time and reinforced how much I enjoy this race especially when the weather is as kind as today. No wind, Hastings felt very early summer like and the usual enthusiastic support always leaves a warm memory. However I think I’m similar to Simgull and had forgotten how tough this was. In hindsight I went off too fast and gave too much energy in getting up the ridgeway. Really started to feel it by mile 10 and the finish couldn’t come soon enough. I usually finish a race thinking I could have gone quicker but not today. Nothing left on the course and not sure I got my strategy right in any way.
Good to see so many NSC regulars today and congratulations to @bignuts finishing in a great time and 82nd place in a strong field

Perfect strategy you burnt me out and kept going yourself.

Do or die at Hastings ended up as the latter. Valiantly chasing penny's harmonica at my 10k pace up the 6 mile hill was only going to end one way. I was well Rogered! On for a planned 1:40 until mile 12 at over 9 and an 8:00 finish put me 3" off target and a good 6" behind the excellent harmonica. Thanks to Big Nuts for being my carer at the finish line with tea and water. I had a little spinny spell.
Really enjoyed the challenge if not the outcome. Further good news for the day is I will not be able to do the marathon as my amateur status has gone having won a spot prize on the finish line.

David Beckham never got anything right.

Take a view nearer the day. I think we’ve all come away from today questioning our abilities.

Can I clear up a few things about the start, please? I started my run at 10:06 this morning, my intention was to run 2 miles out along the front and then back to the start. The intention was to start with the back markers. What actually happened, though, is that when I started everyone had already turned that first corner. So, the announcer mentioned that there was another late starter and I played up to the cheers and applause of the good and great people of Hastings.

I then smashed my way through the field, trying to keep the 7:30 target pace in mind. I ran 12 miles yesterday, the middle 7 of which were at 6:50 per mile pace. Today was difficult, the hills made things very tough for me to maintain the 7:30 per mile pace and I was way ahead of it, then way behind it. I love the course, it's a shame it's pre-marathon because I don't imagine a year when I'm not going all out for it. But I do feel I can post a quick time on that course, I think it suits me nicely. Brilliant time for big nuts on the day, brilliantly paced as well, looking at the splits.

Solid runs for penny's harmonica, knocky1 and Simgull - no disrespect in the order of mentions there boys. I'm going to sleep well tonight!

Also, 61 miles for me this week - 415 for the year to date. :albion2:

Not trying to be controversial, but a hard half marathon three weeks out from a marathon will have no lasting effect in terms of running the marathon to plan........

:lolol:I’d like to see a video of your start.
All very well Ninja Elephant but I beat you by 5 seconds. You’ll be useless in the Olympics.

My concern would be picking up some kind of strain or something on the day. I do think I'll be racing it next year though, I'll work it into my plan for 2020. If I ran the Half at Marathon pace, I think it would be good training, if a bit of short of milage a few weeks out.

I hope there might be something, the commentator joked that I'd parked in Eastbourne or otherwise didn't know where the start was. :lolol: In actual fact, today was the earliest I've shown up for a race. I just didn't quite get it right with the pacing of the out and back, not something that will generally be a problem. On the plus side, nobody overtook me at any time.

If we're racing each other on chip time I think we both ought to race Ninja on gun time in the BM. I'd also suggest hiding his alarm clock but it's blatently obvious he doesn't have one.

Great Hastings runs, people. Think I'll stick it on the race list for 2020.

I had a tough one yesterday morning. Couldn't get going and ended up taking it nice and slow by the end. I put it down as a bad day at the office and got back on the time trials this morning. Building up to the AW20 on Sunday – funny old route, but on my doorstep and birthday means it's too good an opportunity to pass up!

Bloody Worthing!
Has anyone else one anything in a race before?

Not trying to trump your ace, especially given the magnificence of the spot-prize you received (hard to say 'awarded') but at the 'Hayling 10' a couple of years ago I became the proud possessor of a waterproof jacket bearing the name 'Morrisons' proudly on its back. It wasn't the right size.

Mixed weekend for my running efforts.

Started well on Saturday in Hove Park, a SB time of 21.46 and AG of 62.71 (along with a best positional and gender finish) made for a satisfying start to the weekend. Just need to find 12 seconds over the coming couple of weeks to turn that SB into a PB...

Gaffer, an update to the table when you're able to please :)

Then to Sunday, whilst some of NSC's finest were doing battle in Hastings I was 22 miles in preparation for the BM and it felt terrible!! Like others have mentioned, I found it really difficult to get going yesterday and really struggled for any kind of rhythm. My pace and times disintegrated over the final third and I was struggling to jog down the hills never mind anything else by the end!

Based on this, I know I've got the miles in my legs to complete the BM I'm just doubting whether I can hit my finish time target, Maranoia is strong within me today!!

Anyway, huge well done to everyone who got out and did the miles yesterday, love reading about how you all got on.

I'll be stepping out for an 8 mile recovery run this morning, I'm not feeling it at all. My legs are very heavy this morning and the cycle to work was a drag. I'm not looking forward to tomorrow's mile sprints!
