If you get to Amarillo, don't sing the song. They don't know it. Or care for it.

I went on a road trip a few years ago, with a couple of English mates (including Kinky Gerbils ) and an American who was doing the driving. We were heading through New Mexico and saw a sign for Amarillo. Of course we got him to pull over and proceeded to take multiple photos of us underneath the sign pointing towards Amarillo. He had no f***ing idea what we were doing.

They also don't seem to like it when you sing Build Me Up Buttercup on a karaoke night at a rock bar in Albuquerque.

Funnily enough, that's the one our cab driver had us listen to when he didn't know the Tony Christie song. He assumed it was the one we were talking about with regards to an Amarillo themed song. When we played him the Tony Christie song, he was both intrigued and stunned it was popular.

Sorry mum, the mob has spoken! :jester:

I think if you ask a citizen of Amarillo what "the Amarillo song" is this is the song they would be thinking you were referring to. Amarillo by Morning

Maybe now I have been more pacific you can help thanks

More Transatlantic than Pacific, I would hope.

I'm sure you'll get plenty of decent New York recommendations now.

Thing is, if you're in Amarillo, you are unlikely to be asking if this is the way to Amarillo, as you've already got there.

Yes, but if you are from Lubbock, Midland, Odessa, Oklahoma City, Albuquerque, Abilene or El Paso, the way to Amarillo could be very important, especially before GPS.

My favourite song about Amarillo is a song called Amarillo Armadillo. Which was the name of a baseball team in that part of Texas, the Amarillo Armadillos.

Make sure you ask someone ‘if you can bum a fag?’ And when ordering food use ‘can I get’, Americans really don’t like manners so no need to use ‘please’ or ‘thank you’.
