I hope to see you there - I'll be running. Aiming for 3:30 ideally, depending on how I get on this week with a bit of distance work and a bit of speed work. Nothing too intensive, it's a very energy sapping course.

I’ll do my best to not let you lap me. If you do, at least it’ll be dark. Be careful as you pass - that river flows quite quickly towards high tide [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

Any tips for interval training? Looking to start to try and improve pace. Have got my garmin watch so can add custom times/distances in to that....

Good advice from Mr Banana. My advice is be careful and limit the number of sessions. Start with 1 a week and don't overdo the session. If you can't run the last one at same or faster pace than the preceding intervals you've overdone it.

I haven't done any since last November and have used the last of half mile of Parkrun to build up pace. Time to start them again this week. Thanks for the reminder.

7 miles on the flat for me yesterday working at "steady" which should be my target MP come April. A jog up and down Southwick Hill this morning in bright sunshine.

A question for all you experienced trail runners - at what point should I get some proper, big boy, trail shoes? Today much of the stony path was rock hard but under the trees and where the trail was naturally softer Friday's rain hadn't cleared and I nearly slipped a couple of times. Would proper shoes have helped? Was in my (road) Brooks Ghost 12.

Far more pleasant conditions for this years Trailblazer 10k this morning.

Lovely course but each year I underestimate what a bitch the snake is. Really had to hang on up that section and then the 500 metre sprint for home. Very pleased to dip in under 39 minutes (38:55) almost two minutes quicker than last year.

6th place the same as last year. Course measures at around 5.8 miles which is fine by me. Next race could be 13 Hardway for me, I’m going to check the forecast 3/4 days before as can’t deal with another Maverick like course in 30 degree heat.

Headed to Hove Park today in case Tyson Fury was still hanging round the Prom. All those months away and I can still almost pace it blindfolded.
Ran off tempo at 8:20. Happy with that.

House renovation almost under control now so ready to knuckle down to some hard work. 12 week half marathon plan has started. I’ve only hit 428 miles in last 9 months time to build up the mileage.

I rarely wear trail shoes this time of year - even if there’s a soggy bit here and there the trails dry out so fast (especially on the Downs). Would be worth getting a pair if you’re going to spend more time offroad though - when properly wet the Downs are challenging. The trail versions of road shoes don’t tend to have that much better grip though - perhaps better off going for a purer trail shoe specialist brand like Inov8 or Salomon.

If you’re in the trail mood, you’d do a lot worse than 13 Hardway on 10th August. Really tough course but a well organised event with a lovely route.

Anyone else signed up this year? I probably will a bit nearer the time.

**** that. Why turn round at Housedean when you can go to Southease and back and bag a little ultra ?

I’m not doing it this year, going to Watford [emoji106][emoji23]

If you do it, would recommend road shoes anyway. I ran almost the whole route as part of my run this morning (all apart from the tank tracks start/finish) - it’s drier than Ghandi’s flip-flop.

This is quite good: https://instagram.com/redzonerunning

They have a fairly simple (for a dunce like me) programme you could also download in their bio.

If you prefer outdoors to the treadmill, you could use trees as markers and sprint between one or two, then walk the next set. The slopes at Hove Park are quite useful for switching tempos. For example, you could run sub-20 5k pace from roughly the basketball courts to the opposite side of the track (about 500m). Then walk or light jog down the slope back to where you started as recovery, give yourself a few seconds and go again.

Thanks! Any in particular programme from the link on their bio? There’s loads there!

I've done this one once at the lowest beginner level and it was good. Lasts about 58 minutes. The reason I might have struggled at the lower level is cos I was in a well hot gym: https://www.instagram.com/p/By9sqUQH1_H/

Did this one today as had less time. Started at the lowest beginner speed but switched it up to 10-12-15 halfway through. Was alright: https://www.instagram.com/p/B0K5ic_HK19/

They've posted a top five here: https://www.instagram.com/p/Bz6Pl4vncYK

The stretch of the SDW I ran (River Adur to Devil's Dyke) yesterday was very dry, but I had by big boy trail shoes on. Although they are almost as comfortable as my roadies, so might go with them anyway on the day...

Trailblazer was very good - nice shakeout of the legs and a route I never run otherwise, which is always refreshing. I was 6th out of 83 on the Snake segment on Strava, a place behind a certain [MENTION=18183]big nuts[/MENTION] who ran it in 9:14 to my 9:41. Amazing pace up the hill and in general across a very tough course.

Immediately after, I did a 10 miler at a very slow pace to get some milage into my legs ahead of the Lunar-Tic to come on saturday. I'll do a couple of road runs this week to keep myself ticking over but I'm in preparation mode now, anything close to 3:30 will be very handy on the day, considering the lack of real build up - but I'm expecting to be closer to 4 hours than 3.5.

Cheers.

Southwick Hill was as dry as the proverbial flip flop yesterday with the exception of three big patches of mud and standing water. I nearly slipped in the biggest patch both going up and coming down. All those miles on the seafront and you can still feel like a novice :lolol:

I think I'll invest in proper trail shoes around September time. I don't want to be trying to navigate on challenging ground on the day of Beachy Head in either road shoes or brand new trails. It'll give me an excuse to enter the Mince Pie this year too.

Brighton trailblazer 10k for me Sunday. Very hilly. I'll be happy with under an hour. Typically I run 10k in 50 mins.

Did 54mins which I am very pleased with. The Snake took its toll though, what with it being an 120 foot climb over 2 miles!

It's not an easy one, for sure. It's a lovely hill to run up though, great views off to the East if you're able to enjoy them on the way up! Are you a frequent attendee of parkruns? The Trailblazer not quite 10k is a lovely event if you like scenary, and Bevendean Down parkrun offers something similar - with their own hench hill, which you run twice.

Experienced bullying on the Prom this evening.
Two 10 year old boys cycled alongside and one said "Where's the bike path?" I told them and he answered "cos we're not going to use it old 'un". I sprinted after them, which surprised them, and knocked his cap off but they soon returned."We've got you surronded old 'un." At Hove Lagoon they shot off with a cheery "See you later old 'un".

Payback from my own childhood antics................I enjoyed the 5 mile trot. I'm on the way back.
