At the risk of incurring the wrath of regulars on the ORT by talking about Ironman again, Francis Benali's latest challenge caught my eye. I had no idea that he'd done so much fundraising via two huge challenges before, but this one is a beast – seven ironmans in seven days

Just thought I'd chuck it out there because it's it's a nice running-football fusion, plus a bit of charity for good measure. He's on his third day now – I'll be watching with interest...

Bit lightweight to be honest. Our pal Chris at Sussex Trail Events has done a DecaIronMan [emoji23][emoji23]

Just noticed I welcomed sjamesb3466 to the 2020 Brighton marathon field yesterday when I meant loco61.

Advice for 2019 loco61 would be as already said on here. I’d aim to reach 50k weekly by Xmas. Throw in variety. Enter some races. Build in an easier week every month. Get any niggles looked at before running through. Don’t run on sore feet and have 2-3 plus trainers. Good luck.

thank you very much…
long way to go still this week i have Sunday 10.5 km and yesterday 4.5 km with 5-6k planned for both tomorrow and Friday and the 10 again on Sunday (is 25 km a week)
at the moment i am running up hills in Wiesbaden... (and back down of course!) not very steep but significant
am wondering whether i will notice a huge difference when running on the flat : bit worried about the wind mind you!!
only have one pair of trainers to date

Yeah, but he's superhuman! I'm not sure I could contemplate 2/2 marathons, let alone two IMs back-to-back...

I'd suggest doing most of your running on the flat, otherwise you're likely to have problems with your quads (and other muscles) if you do a lot of distance just on hills. Incorporate a few hills into your long runs though and have a hill training session every week or two (build up the number of reps as your training progresses).

As knocky1 says, you need a few pairs of shoes. I tend to have two on the go which I switch between and then get another pair to break in for race day (around 80k).

I use the Hal Higdon training plans for my marathons https://www.halhigdon.com/ you might be able to find something to suit you there.

I'm off to Pittsburgh this weekend with a group of about 20 people from both my running clubs. Looking forward to seeing another marathon weekend in a different city. I love the whole buzz around a race, with so many runners in one city. I'm doing the half marathon on Sunday, although not planning to race it hard (I've said that before though!)

Any recommendations for a winter half marathon?

After what was a really disappointing Brighton marathon I’ve had a couple of weeks off but feel like I really need another target so that I have motivation to carry on the running this year.

Despite hobbling round in my slowest ever time I did enjoy the training, and would like to carry on clocking up the mileage for the year.

Deca is 10, not 2 [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23] He wrote a blog about it. Sounds HORRENDOUS

Yeah, I know – hence the 'superhuman' comment. Mine was just a general admission about my ability/willingness to do any more than any 'normal' person would consider

This - Barns Green half is a brilliant event. Closed country roads, and the route goes through the grounds of Christs Hospital school. A few ups and downs, but no really hard hills. The whole village seems to be involved in the organisation and marshalling, and there's a real festival feeling all day on the village green with food and drink stalls and music. Lots of good support, with bands and cheering on the route. Somehow manages to achieve some of the excitement of a big event, while remaining local and low key, and every time I've done it the sun has shone. There's also a 10k on the day, using part of the same course.

Another vote for BG – nothing to add that hasn't already been said. Not done it for years, so might consider it this year.
