Agree here. With Momentum taking over, the moderate councillors have had enough grief which is why most have resigned or jumped. Coupled with the mess that this city is in, the anti-semitism in the party, death threat that the Queens Park Labour councillor received from her own party, I would be astonished why anyone other than a hard red socialist could or would vote Labour in May.

A monorail from the Marina to the King Alfred? :clap2:

That’s not entirely true is it. I’m pretty sure a few of them are retiring. Some of the old guard like Les Hamilton and Alan Robbins are staying, a few of the newish younger councilors have been deselected, in some cases because they were crap. You make it sound like a mass walk out when it actually isn’t.

Of the 23 councillors - 17 are not restanding. 3 of those have stepped down/changed parties because they can't stand the party that they were representing. Of the other 14 some are retiring, the majority have been de-selected or standing down because they can't/won't stand for a hard left party.

I know at least one other had a new job and didn't have the time for the unpaid role. Your first post suggested it was all due to Momentum, we're now accepting some retirements, job comments. De-selection can be for a number of reasons. There are clearly some that don't like the left slant of the party at this point, but changes in councillors standing isn't some radical new thing given it is a voluntary role. There are a fair few Tories and Greens also stepping down / retiring / new jobs etc.

My point was primarily about the former leader of the council, from him it is quite clear Momentum have taken over and they can't work together.

The councillors all get paid - starting salary is c£11,500pa

No Green or Conservative councillors have left mid term but 3 Labour have.

I believe but I may not be 100% sure that all Green/Blue councillors who wanted to restand are.
Not the case with Labour. You need to swear an oath to Corbyn!

You know you've got me because I had no idea they got paid that much!

It's peanuts. They have to work the equivalent of about a half-time position, although most do more. The pay and job requirements are ideal for the ageing and affluent, not really for (m)any other sectors of society.
