[Albion] Ben White Signs new deal

A pleasing line in The Athletic article:

"What Leeds wanted as part of their agreement with Brighton was an option to sign White permanently in 12 months’ time and discussions over that delayed the transfer beyond the start of pre-season. Albion stood firm, refusing to put themselves at the mercy of a clause which would look badly misjudged if White turned out to be the diamond Leeds decided he was when the dust from their defeat at Newport settled."

Just read that same piece (and came here to post it!) - gives some great insight into his ability and personality from coaches who've worked with him down the years. But yes, that paragraph you quote stood out as the most pleasing to read. We may be blessed at centre-back but we're not going to start handing out our best prospects.

If that's true it's an incredible request from Leeds. They have no bargaining position at all in this matter. We could have just loaned him to one of their rivals.

Seems we have the next generation of CB all lined up and ready to go.
White Clarke and Webster all 3 with massive potential. Heard fans of all 3 clubs they have played for previously or on loan talk about future England internationals
Both Clarke and white looked really good in opening championship weekend if they can do that for a whole season it won’t be long until the ease Duffy and burn out next year as the ball playing CB that potter likes. I assume Webster if pretty decent if we got him in to allow these 2 out on loan.
White still storming along at LUFC; Clarke has a bit of ground to make up - dropped off and was dropped after a good start. Back in the team now - space left by the unavailability for a long time of the team captain?
Predicting Burn's departure from The Albion by next season is looking a bit wide of the mark now!

40m should do it. And thats probably still cheap in today's market.

Don't want to let that lad go just yet. If we decide that next season we still have sufficient resources at CB not to immediately need him, we could always let them have another season long loan.

For a rather hefty fee.

Leeds definitely would like to sign Ben White

I would definitely like to shag Gal Gadot

Wanting something to happen, doesn't mean it will

White looks very Dunk-esque with his passing, and fits the Potter profile of bringing the ball out with confidence. Looks a great prospect, and a season in the Championship will do him no harm at all, especially under a coach as good as Bielsa.

Who, among those of us alive and kicking in 1970, would have thought that some years later we would be loaning a developing player to lower league Leeds United? And who would have thought that what we would be discussing was the possibility the lad might be good enough for our squad next season. FFS.
