It is but we're a country which is not at war which has taken the active choice to be in a position where we have to prioritise medicines over food, when we are right now in a position where there is plenty of both. Just let the utter madness of that sink in,

let you in on something... thats not supposed to happen, on several levels.

Get real! No media fibs here. The retailers have spotted a massive opportunity to raise prices and boost profits without having to look like the bad guys. They said prices would rise - yep, sure, and I bet they'll make sure they do!

thing is they didnt say that. they could have, it could have been much stronger worded. major risk highlighted is to fresh produce with short shelf life. the letter is mild in content considering, they are concerned about their businesses based on offering large consumer choice and less may impact their bottom line. headlines saying in quotes there would be empty shelves, when no such claim in the letter is a lie from the media.

Not supposed to happen? Well that's fine then, when it does it means we can all go "Well that was unexpected LOL!" and have a jolly good laugh about it.

Bloody Worthing!
Fantasy stuff, Fact Check did not support Remain assertions on rising costs when they were made in the referendum....

https://www.channel4.com/news/factcheck/factcheck-eu-raise-prices

Economic assessment on the exit of CAP are positive, and from a socialist perspective a perfect example where subsidies for rich landowners can be stopped to the benefit of the poor.

https://iea.org.uk/blog/abolish-the-cap-let-food-prices-tumble

Great news unless you are a rich landowner.....even you aren’t going to defend CAP are you?

Wow - the IEA! Have you had a major political conversion as a man who writes from a 'socialist perspective'. As a Brexiteer you must be used to some strange bedfellows but this one takes the proverbial biscuit.

Went into the pharmacy to get my BP medicine to be told that they are only dispensing a month at a time as the pharmaceutical companies are only allowing limited supplies out as they are stockpiling. I asked about warfarin and seemly that is on a list of shortages.

Well that was a sobering experience.

Seemly the NHS are trying to source medicines from outside the EU but their manufacturing standards are not as high as in the EU so they are stuck between shortages and having to import inferior medicines.

Of course it is all fake news and we will all be fine.

this is simple prejudice. manufacturing standards of medicines outside EU are upto standard or they dont get licensed to import. many medicines are already made and imported from north america, south america, africa, asia.

A fun party game is working out which of the useless idiots to take with you should the medicines run out. Play it quite a lot around our house at the moment.

I don't disagree...but she is a pharmacist and explained the problem. If you believe her not, I tend to believe experts in the field. My warfarin comes from holland btw and imnodipin(sp) from Germany. Maybe next time it will come from Nigeria of Honolulu..the world is our oyster.

That just isn't true. At the moment, those medicines that are up to standard get a license to import into the EU, but those that aren't, don't. But now we might be in a situation where good standard medicines don't make it from the EU so we end up importing what we can, and that will include sub-standard medicines from elsewhere which the EU refuses to accept.

There is the same worry with the food industry. Does anyone seriously think we won't be seeing horsemeat find it's way into the food chain and other substandard meats? Of course it will. We are dependent on trade with the EU and if that grinds to a halt, we'll see all sorts of unpleasant things happening as unscrupulous people fill demand with all sorts of shit.

This is not an anti Brexit argument, this is an argument against a no-deal Brexit. No-deal should not be allowed to happen and it is a gross dereliction of duty for the government to proceed with it with the country so ill-prepared for it. It is no exaggeration to say people will end up dead as a result of no deal.

I am in total agreement that the Brexit vote was an utter cock up, and that the needs of the people would be better served staying within the EU, and that possibly the UK will suffer serious economic damage. But let’s be honest, you are a wet liberal snowflake drama queen of the highest order?

I’m glad you posed that as a question . The answer is no.

Rather than a question, let me make a statement: You’re an utter prick.

Cheers

I find it beyond belief that Speaker John Bercow wields so much power. He gets to pick and choose which amendments get put forward to the house. SO open to abuse with potentially huge and far-reaching consequences.

im saying there are alternative sources that are up to standard. other than some generics made for local markets, medicines are made to standards that pass license requirements otherwise they wouldn't have a market to sell to. many already are and blister packs get repackaged overseas (including in EU) for commercial reasons. the issue is with transportation and getting the product into the country anyway, not the origin. EU isnt going to ban exports (companies would parallel import anyway if they did).

It'll be fine if you believe the inferior quality medication will work. Stop talking it down!

My wife's best friend is a pharmacist and by coincidence she was telling my wife about this issue over the weekend. She is convinced they will not be able to import the good quality medicines that they need if there is no deal. What makes you so sure that she is wrong and that you are right? Are you in the pharmaceutical industry yourself, or are you just doing what seems to me to be your usual Chemical Ali routine when it comes to defending the conduct of the Tory party in government?

I don't disagree with your overall point but it's interesting you highlight horse meat. There's actually nothing wrong with horse meat, it's actually quite nice and available in many supermarkets in France. There are two problems with horse meat in the UK. One being the scandal about it being in meals but not listed on the ingredients, and the other stems from that problem in that the UK in general find the idea of horse meat repugnant. Generally there's nothing wrong with it. Even pet food is fit for human consumption.

And no, neither taste like chicken.
