Do Derby actually need a striker? In my mind, if we sign Maupay, Brentford would be a pretty ideal place for Connolly. Need a striker so he’d play, they play good football and would create chances for him, but without the pressure of one of the bigger clubs in the division.

I'm not quite sure that you're correct about this for a number of reasons:-

1. No evidence that Derby are actually in the market for a new striker

2. While we would show loyalty to ex-players in managerial roles, Liam is only a coach at Derby - it would be difficult to establish how much 'pull' he actually has in that position

3. Our ultimate duty of care is to the development of the player, rather than ex-staff who have moved on to pastures new. We wouldn't send him there if our development team regard Derby as too high profile or that Connolly wouldn't get sufficient game time. We'll make a judgement as to what's in the best interests of the player, particularly if there a number of Championships clubs chasing Connolly, as reported by Brian Owen.
