Im doing the Brighton Half next week. Not as quickly as I’d hoped when I entered but training has gone reasonably well until I spent last week dosed up on Ibuprofen due to severe toothache. The tooth is now gone!

I had a wisdom tooth out couple of years back. Dentist said no exercise for 5 days. I ignored her and the wound opened up. She really shouted at me when I went back. She's good at her job..

Good and bad news I'm afraid. I've spotted on Strava that [MENTION=11816]Artie Fufkin[/MENTION] got a brilliant 17.27 at the first Cassiobury Parkrun yesterday. Excellent running and his AG was 78.8%. So it's sub 20 for me this year or failure.

Great that a youngster 40-44 has shown that a high AG is not only for super athletic old gits!

Saturday's parkrun was a good confidence booster as I head into my final block of training for the Manchester Marathon where I'm targeting sub 3. Taking inspiration from Badger's epic performance! So far so good with the training, just trying to navigate each week safely. Final big 4 weeks ahead before a 3 week taper. Anyone else in for Manchester?

Excellent performance will slowly get round to putting that at the top of the table.

That would be great fun! It would be nice to meet a few NSC Runners. I'd be pretty optimistic of coming away with a PB and then a win of course.

A friend who is running her first marathon at Brighton sent me the below post about Countdown runs. I think it's a really neat idea for those getting in their long runs to break a long one into smaller out & back chunks so that you're never too far away from home. Perhaps not as small as 1 milers though :) Hope the below FB link works.

I get what that article is suggesting - I find loops and out and backs quite easy and use them a lot in training - although I also know lots of people that hate them. I've done a few marathons that were multiple out and backs or laps (Phoenix Running do loads, as do Enigma) and a few lapped marathon events (72 laps of Preston park cycle track, 64 laps of the Amex, 11 times out and back on Southend Pier) - all good !

Got it! Sounds like a good plan to help find a suitable section and to dial into race pace. Huge kudos to those taking on the track endurance races!

1) Confidently assert you are targeting 1:45 in the HM.
2) try new trainers
3) Somehow set both pace AND incline to 12 on the shop’s treadmill for your test run of the trainers
4) nearly die

Sorry not been on NSC for ages! I am looking forward to the Brighton HM on Sunday. I have my plans for the year hopefully mapped out, my main races coming soon are the Brighton HM next week, the Sussex Trails AW20 (20 miles) on the 31st March, ready for the Brighton Marathon on the 14th April.

My next big race will then be the Tromso Midnight Sun marathon on the 22nd June (Most Northerly Marathon in the world as its actually in the Artic Circle), before stupidly entering the Race to the Stones 100k Ultra on the 13th July. To finish my 50th year I will be venturing to Bosnia for the Sarajevo HM on the 15th September before tackling the Beach Head marathon on the 26th October. Lots of challanges to keep me going, I have recently started to do some longer back to back runs , this weekend I did 10 miles Saturday and 14.5 miles on Sunday. All of this aiming for increasing my indurance ready for RTTS. I am seeing running as my midlife crisis!!!

Feeling pretty good at the moment and will be pushing for a PB on Sunday, I will try and stick with the 1.45 pacer but who knows, will see how it goes! I will be looking out for [MENTION=616]Guinness Boy[/MENTION] on Sunday as I think we may be looking at similar times, although his recent long runs have been quicker than mine, I have deliberately been slowing down my pace (getting in excuses early!) so as to avoid injuries as I have upped the mileage, but hope to go flat out Sunday.

I have not done a park run for a while, well since doing the Tilgate/Horsham double header on New Years Day, runs 22&23 and Horsham was my 9th Different venue.

Right enough of being statto, see some of you Sunday!

Nice plan of decent races there. A pal and I have Tromso on the bucket list but won't be this year...........funnily enough the town was on TV last night on something I was watching. Back to backs are brilliant for endurance building - much better than single long runs as reduces the injury risk significantly but you still get the benefit of running on tired legs.

Good luck in Manchester. I'm hoping to see another sub 3 marathon on the board.

My next race is a 5k on St Patrick's Day, so it appears we've set each other targets!

Just replaced my old Asics and bought a pair of 361 degree Strata 3 on the recommendation of the chap at the 'Run' shop in Blatchington Road.

What a thoroughly nice bloke who listened to me wittering on and within 2 pairs at the same price point (the others being Brooks), picked out the perfect pair for my style and fit

Looking forward to trying them out tomorrow

A second sub-3 marathon would be crazy, you wait years for one to come along and then they could start to tumble. :ohmy:

Brighton Half on sunday, courtesy of [MENTION=11441]Sajerz[/MENTION]. I'm going to see where I am but I'm not going to be running flat out, I need to keep some in the tank because the marathon is the goal. I'm not going to be able to beat my HM PB so I'm better off continuing my training and then go hard at the marathon. Much as I'd like to challenge the boys at the very top, I need to consider catching a certain well established foe. :thumbsup:
