Which people wont accept.

People will not vote for a government that will make life harder for them.

People like foreign holidays, driving and eating meat.

We will not get a green dictatorship in the UK.

You must realise this?

Why couldn’t we? The pendulum is already swinging, more and more people are ‘getting it’? We just need to up the urgency. You can sit by and do nothing as is your prerogative. Or you can help in hundreds of small but enormously helpful ways that make a difference. It’s ironic our club motto is Stand or Fall when so many are prepared to Fall without even giving it a try. ‘Grandpa, what did you do in the war...?’ (‘Well, you see son, it was really dangerous and people were getting hurt plus we’d made a right balls of things to start with...so I wrote to my MP asking him to surrender whilst spreading gloom and defeatism to all my friends and neighbours’)

Sake, this is survival at stake here - when are people going to quit moaning about how hard it’s going to be? Is it that hard not to eat less meat? Not fly to Spain for just a weekend break? Not put pressure on friends and family to do the right thing instead of accepting there’s nothing we can do? I’m afraid I just can’t accept that, the story of our own club is a bloody lesson to all those who think that way ironically. I vividly remember all the mocking, delusional and derogatory remarks I had from people when I was handing out leaflets on the London Underground in the 90s, jumping on buses in Hangleton and knocking on doors in Patcham getting people to go out and vote during Falmer for All campaigns. You really aren’t going to persuade me otherwise my friend. Because it can be done, that’s the really exciting bit about it. Why not try and introduce some more changes yourself (sure you’re doing plenty already but there’s always a few more than are very easy to do)

When you have tossers like Trump that deny climate change is happening you've got no chance!

You are asking people to make small differences, but want a green dictatorship and martial law.

So what is you want?

All 3 maybe necessary. Depends how many take steps and how big they are. You’ve given ample evidence this won’t suffice which is why I favour regulation. People need saving from themselves everyday for much less. Anyway, said my piece frankly and honestly. Don’t expect majority to agree because that’s always the case in these situations, history tells us this. Just need enough people to make a difference and the rest of the sheep will be corralled into the pen bleating and baaing without knowing they’re safer.

Portlock, you are one crazy mixed up dude, to be sure!

Don’t insult me like that when people like you make no difference at all and deserve their fate. As said trouble is I have no choice but to share the same ship. I’d throw you overboard in a jiffy in that respect but again it’s not an option. All I can do is try to repair damage and hope you’ll realise someday soon the peril you’re also in and decide to help too. But I doubt it and hundreds of millions like you exist. It’s very very discouraging, you sap the energy and spirit. But I and many others will carry on doing what we can to avert this ecological disaster that is unfolding right NOW. Because the message is getting through, just needs speeding up.

Good luck with your call for Martial Law, Portlock.
Sorry you feel insulted, but you really are mixed up and living in La-La Land............someone had to tell you.
Don't know how old you are, but almost certainly not as old as me.........oh dear, 'sap the energy and spirit'? Well no-one accused us youngsters of that in the 1967' Summer of Love', but then again, we weren't calling for Martial Law!

Who will pay for my gas boiler and cooker to be replaced?

Who will pay for me to get rid of my diesel for an electric car?

Are you in favour of subsidies or do I have to go without?

No. He isn’t. I’ve had the benefit of meeting portlock seagull, a few times in a meeting regarding disabled parking at the AMEX. He’s a lovely smart guy with his head and his heart very much in the right place.

Heart in the right place?

he wants a dictatorship and martial law,

Does he want those who wont comply with his desire of eco-facism to be exterminated?

HT voted to make Corbyn leader of the Labour Party :)facepalm:) so he is probably in favour of re-education 'camps' be they environmental or socialist.

The Marxists and the ECO fascists certainly have a lot in common

F Block, you zeroed in on martial law and dictatorship whilst ignoring the accompanying context: you associate both in the sense of the Nazis or some other despot regime. Clearly I don’t mean in that sense that but you, telling IMO, clearly just want to sneer and belittle my arguments about the great change we now urgently require - so this suits you.

National emergencies like the one we faced in both world wars are what IMO we’ll end up needing to declare because there’s ample evidence by our nature that we won’t do nearly enough until the 11th hour is more like 5 to midnight. And even then...People are just too selfish and apathetic so yes, I believe it will require government to effectively declare the equivalent of because people like you just will be moaning about their right to fly to the Maldives even after it’s submerged. In other words you need to be told you can’t go, denied, controlled in that sense. Because you’re too ducking individualistic to see otherwise (if I pay my taxes, work hard, it’s my right blah blah blah) Sorry but I just don’t see any other way of stopping millions of people like you from always acting in your own self interest ahead of the planets. That’s the context and what I mean by dictatorship and state of emergency. Not bloody concentration camps and Stasi listeners you muppet! What we might call regulation in peacetime. Things like putting a cap on tourism which is already starting to take place around the world. Sorry, but if you’ve a polluting van you just can’t drive it into London or a city anymore because you’re ****ing killing the people there by doing so. And we don’t give it five or ten years to take effect. But maybe 6 months. And stop moaning. Just DO IT! We can’t listen to everyone’s bloody complaints and how it inconveniences them! Because there isn’t time dimwit. We must act NOW! I get that people like you hate being told what to six your first reaction is to - by nature - throw it back in my face even if you privately agree. But the sense of urgency now must be ramped up. I’ve watched the 80s, 90s, 00’s and now 10’s disappear since I first learnt about global warming. Perhaps I’ve more experience oin that sense than you. It’s accelerated and is far worse than predictions then portrayed. And ironically it’s actually YOU who is the fruitloop here for still not getting it. Ducks sake, when will people like you shut up and listen to what’s being said and try to do something about it?

No. I 100% disagree. A different subject but I was involved in the discussions regarding disabled parking at the AMEX with him. He played a big part in this and I witnessed him dealing with Perry and Ken Brown first hand. He’s passionate and smart and a really nice and fun person.

I’ve never protested.

But I’d rise up and resist any form of control as you seem to dream of.

Not that I can see it happening.

Resist! You don’t ‘resist’ pollution controls, you just obey them as law. ‘Rise up’...:lolol: My god, you’re rebelling against planting trees?! What If the government says we all have to plant 1 in on front garden as legislation, or put solar panels on our roofs you’re going to ‘resist’?! That’s not ‘resistance’, that’s being a prize fool if we’re told the combined effect is reduction in C02 that prevents 3 degrees hotter leading to the collapse of agriculture. Then what you going to eat? Apart from the foot in your mouth! Honestly, this is why we need strong leadership akin to the past when we’re on a war footing. Because it will take far too long to get the consensus of people like you in the green debate. We’ve been trying for 40 years and it ain’t worked. People need saving from themselves, they really do. You need to get on with some of the actions we’ve been asked to do and stop arguing the toss over whether it’s happening and how hard it is for you to cut down on meat, let your kids walk or get the bus instead of giving them a lift everywhere, stop taking long haul holidays, stop buying plastic bottled products and all the many many many small actions we can all take that would make a massive difference collectively. Go speak to the residents of Paradise (those that weren’t incinerated that is) or Hull who 3 years later we’re still living in caravans because their houses flooded. And did you not see the map of the UK and the forecasted loss of Lincolnshire? That’s where most of our FOOD is grown. And if you don’t believe the sea will rise that soon or fast, go speak to Louisiana residents. Maybe you can pop into New Orleans whilst you’re there? Remember when they had a bit of heavy rain? It’s easy to discard but as I said, people like you literally need to be told what to do because you won’t do it otherwise. Hence why I really wouldn’t object to government banning more consumables or even e.g. rationing our air miles per citizen until non polluting alternatives become mainstream. Force us to all spend the weekend insulating our lofts and so forth. Make property developers build houses with solar panels as standard. So many things like this would help. Need a real sense of urgency. Anyway, I’ve ranted enough. You know what side of the fence I’m on and I encourage you to swallow your stubbornness and get on with actions.

I don’t have kids mate.

That gives me a free pass to carry on as I am, without being moralised by anyone.

You’ve made my point well, why i believe more and urgent regulation is required. We’d all find reasons not to do, it’s easier than the challenge ahead. Don’t get me wrong I’d let you drown so’s to speak, it’s just that’s not an option so perhaps help with the baling given we’ll both die otherwise? :)

Glorious ranting by you, Portlock, and quite frankly you come over as completely obsessed.
This not the way to get people round to your way of thinking.
Whatever you may think of all the millions of fruitloops like me, many of us are just ordinary people living ordinary responsible lives and are not impressed by the fanatical approach to climate change as favoured by you and your fellow revolutionaries. For example, carbon neutrality by 2025 is not going to happen, however many of your number superglue themselves to London roads. You know this, so why do Extinction Rebellion persist with this 'demand'?
I really can't be bothered to waste any more time keyboarding with a fanatic who will not listen to anybody else's point of view, so goodbye for now and enjoy the rest of Easter.
Let us hope the Albion get something out of the weekend..........fingers crossed.
P.S. For your information, my wife hasn't flown since 1991 and that was for business and I haven't flown since 1997 and again, that was for business. We haven't been abroad on holiday since 1989 and that was a trip to Munich.......Prost H.T.!:drink:
Maldives? Ha-ha, usually Dorset, Devon or Cornwall for us!
