Afternoon all. I know [MENTION=4949]7:18[/MENTION] doesn't venture to these shores much any more, but I was pleased to see he's still running. There's a '10 in 10' Brighton Marathon gallery on Facebook and I see he's one of the elite who has done them all!

Had a brief chat with him running up to Church Road in this years. Good effort 10/10. See you in Preston Park indeed.

I probably don’t really need him as much these days but I love the ease of not ever having to think about what to do - just set a goal race and he works towards that. Only ever plans in detail up to 10 days or so ahead (although the training blocks are set further out), and is flexible around other stuff that gets in the way etc. We chat 1-2 times per month (or more if I want) and he’s always available through messaging. It’s not cheap but I’ll keep going as long as I can afford it. The advice I’ve had has been invaluable (not just on the training plan but hydration, nutrition, kits, tactics, psychological stuff etc). Dan Lawson won the Albion marathon in November.

I can ask Jimbo about the application process if you’re interested ? I know it’s very convoluted and difficult. Think there are only 40 runners each year, with 20 vets and 20 virgins. He had a place last year but had to defer.

Wow that's very cool! No chance of me even contemplating Barkley but I have huge admiration for anyone that attempts it and just intrigued as the application process is shrouded in secrecy. Laz sets some very strange questions and you have to write an essay but first you need to find out how and when to apply.

Definitely very sad. Really strange that Mo decided to use the press conference to light the fuse and bring this row into the open before he left the room. Now Haile is on the attack and it's escalating into all kinds of insinuations. I wonder if Mo is not at the level he needs to be for Sunday (or carrying an injury) and has caused this noise to deflect. It's unlikely he'll be able to train in Ethiopia again for a while. I can't see him (or anyone) troubling GOAT Eliud Kipchoge to win his 4th London Marathon on Sunday anyway unless Kipchoge has a bad day. I'd love Mo to do well but if Eliud is off form, I think the Ethiopian Kitata will be close.

If you could take a mere 45 minutes of your marathon pb, you could be the first man to run a sub 2 hour marathon.

I have a lot of time for both; Haile ran in my first ever marathon. It’s desperately sad.

As an aside, Kipchoge’s shoes will need to fall apart again for Mo to have any chance. That said, he still won that race despite the wonky shoes.

I watched Kipchoges world record last year. It has to rank as the most breath taking run I’ve ever seen. He stated he was going for the record but when his pacers dropped off around the mid point we thought something was wrong. Then he started to get faster and faster....then there was the slow realisation his pacers were there to hold him back....and then the realisation he as on track to obliterate the world record. Crazy stuff.

There’s about 15 Rogue Runners taking part of you are looking for friendly faces.

We are watching true athletic greatness when Kipchoge races. Just had a look back at some of the figures from the 2:01:39 in Berlin. Lightening rapid!

Average mile pace per mile - 4:38
Average pace per 5k - 14:24
Halfway in 61:06 / second half in 60:33 !
Broke the world record by 1 minute 18 secs !

Breaking 2 hours will happen one day but will it be him who does it?

It will, but even the times they are doing now are almost unbelievable. Presumably his AG is 100%

It was just astonishing to watch as he ploughed on after the pacers fell by the wayside................and the stats are ridiculous. I've seen his 5k and mile splits for the whole race and they're insane.

I shall hope to plod round in a little over double his time and will probably see him near Tower Bridge as we go in opposite directions :laugh::laugh::laugh:.

Good luck to the VLM crew – slightly jealous of you all, despite being fortunate enough of having done it three times!

The Mo thing(s) is(are) very odd. The timing of the announcement about the Ethiopia 'thing' (whatever happened or didn't happen over there) was not ideal, to say the least and that stunt at the expo was just weird. Not only did he risk himself injury, but he could have twatted the guy that was already running! I love track Mo, but I'm not really a big fan of what Marathon Mo seems to be all about, I'm afraid. Ever since he did half the distance the other year, I've always found him to be a bit full of himself and expecting his track talent to see him through on the road. Personally, I don't think he stands a chance on Sunday – he might try to hang on, but the pace and quality will do for him, I think...

Despite all the longstanding unanswered questions surrounding him throughout his career on the track, particularly once he joined up with Salazar, I'm still a huge fan of Mo. I wasn't sure he was going to be able to transfer to the marathon so well but looking back last year at London (2:06) and Chicago (2:05) it's been very impressive so far.
