Yep, sounds good to me. I'm well up for a bit of track action.

Now onto the logistics of getting everyone together, in the same place at the same time.

*gets out 2021 diary*

I suppose first steps is to agree to a day of the week, which best suits and go from there. I’m flexible apart from Thursdays.

How about a handicapped 5k based on SB parkrun times ? If, say, the slowest runner has an SB of 40 mins, he starts first, followed 2 mins later by someone with an SB of 38 mins and so on.......................

Great idea, except for those of us who set their SB (and PB) on 1 January and haven’t managed to get anywhere near it since[emoji853]

It is a great idea and I'd be up for it. I notice that it says it is either for schools or clubs. That may be an issue as we are not affiliated. I'll try and find out tomorrow.

I'm flexible for any date except the next 10 weeks...........Monday is booked by Arena until 7.30- 8pm. Football is also played there by Lewis Dunk's former club AFC Varndeanians.

Welcome to the thread. My advice? Don't run it – it's a 10k!

Seriously, with the injury in mind, I would either take it easy or swerve it, as others have said. Not worth the potential extra damage otherwise.

I love 10k's, genuinely don't get the dislike of them. Unless I'm clearly not pushing hard enough!

For me, pushing hard is part of the problem. I'm not built for speed so trying to sustain any sort of fast pace over a certain distance doesn't come easy. I'll go out ask guns blazing buy by the time I get to about five miles I'm hanging on in there and sometimes just blow up, eventually struggling over the line.

I'm also more of a fan of longer races - give me a marathon over a 10k any day!

21:52ish at Peacehaven. 20 seconds down on last year but enjoyed going full out. Avoided being boxed in by Arena women on the narrow hill this year but this led to a fast 4:15 first km on a hilly part of the run. Managed to hold position from then on. So generally pleased, with work to do.
dazzer6666 cannot join till next Withdean injunction in October but can join Hove Park training on Thursdays. An email address on club website if interested.

We can book Withdean Track whenever wanted throughout the year subject to availibilty. Monday after Arena80 session is usually available and plenty of other times in the week. AFC Varndeanians are having a number of FA Cup games and replays apparently. I wish them well.

Another SB for me this morning, 18:44 at Hove Park. 69:40% on the age grading, my third highest ever. This was my 4th quickest 5k ever, and my first time in the top 5 around Hove Park. I ran a 5:45 first mile which was pretty decent and I was declared in 5th from just before the first KM. Dropped into 6th briefly when the guy behind me felt he had some bonus pace but then we came across a hill and he had no answer to my consistent cadence. I couldn't have given anything more, 5:45, 6:06, 6:07 and 4:39 for the last 0.1 mile were the splits.

Once again, I've narrowly failed to get a PB at Hove Park, which remains 18:43. :lolol: But after my failed pace session this week (6 x 1 miles in 6:30 per was the target, but the last 3 were all north of 7 minutes), I was just pleased to go sub-19 again. This is now my longest consecutive streak of sub 20 parkruns and the 3rd time I've managed 2 sub-19 finishes in a row. 3 sub-19s in a row is my record, so I'll be having a go at equalling that next week. I've now run sub-19 parkruns 11 times, 6 of them at Hove Park. Portsmouth, Preston Park (2), Kettering and Hove Promenade the others. I've only managed sub-19 once on the Prom, and that was 18:58. The cone turn just doesn't suit me at all.

Typical Ninja Elephant performance heading onwards and upwards. You’re nearly there. A race off is in order, if big nuts has the balls to take you on....shame I’ll miss it.

Thanks Gaffer

They probably won’t want me at the moment, I’m further away from decent short-race times than ever after so many weeks of slow hilly stuff. 12m yesterday and another 20m on the Downs this morning..........about 230m in August racked up though, and nearly 25,000 ft of elevation

I *might* do a parkrun next week (during taper) just to see how bad things are [emoji23][emoji23]

Morning all. A week "off grid" for me in both running terms and NSC terms so only just seen this. I am absolutely in for this if it happens, with the proviso that I have to be in Brighton. I have a lot of work travel to Edinburgh lined up between now and Xmas.

Am about to venture out for an hour's jog to see how much damage a week's "Cross Training" has done to my fitness. As Dazzer knows, a trip to the Manor, whilst it included a couple of games of 5-a-side, continuous cricket and a lot of swimming also meant some gentle games of golf, bowls and snooker, a lot of standing around watching the kids go mental, several cooked breakfasts, three course lunches, three course dinners and booze every night. Over 10,000 steps every day, around 3500 calories burned every day and I still reckon I'm half a stone up.

A 19.12 mile adventure for me this afternoon and into the evening - taking in the wonders of Ditchling Beacon, Jack and Jill windmills and the Devil's Dyke. Naturally, I was frequently lost and somehow managed to totally lose the pathways at one point, resulting in briefly having to run alongside a 50 mile an hour road. Which was like a throw back to the Isle of Wight Half Marathon. I managed 2,115 feet elevation gain over the course of 2 hours and 45 minutes. I'm delighted to be home alive and having successfully completed the run. I'm not sure how much it will help me when Leicester rolls around in 5 weeks. I'm not currently able to get close to the type of pace I'm aiming for - but I tend to perform on the day. We'll see.

Managed to move up a position in the Parkrun Series at Arena over the weekend. 3 based on club finish position and 2 based on AG. Just the Hove Park AG position race to go in December. A not too serious challenge except by me.

Have you got a time/AG target for that specific event (says a man looking over his shoulder!)?

No time/AG target for that event. The 6 best from 7 are taken. There are two races left in the Series. E Brighton on place and Hove Park on AG position. I'm away for E Brighton. My only rival is John Orden a 63 year old gent who is a much better runner than me without using his AG. He's currently injured but deserves my 4th place. Having said that there are many better runners than me in that table! The DNS 50 point fine is brilliant.

My target will be an AG performance on a flat course in November/December to try and beat your AG. I'll be a real old git by then.

Well I hope you spank the 63 year old but show respect for the 64 year old! (Serious point: when you get into the 60-64 cat, there's suddenly a big difference between each year in terms of recovery from injury and getting back some form. I had a great 62 but then the wheels began to fall off - or rust up, perhaps like John Orden.)

Had a great run yesterday, beat my year target and got another PB at 6k.:O

My only issue is I have to now set another record to beat before 2020 starts!

This running game doesn't get any easier!

Mouldy: would you care to publish some of your PB times? I for one am intrigued at the progress you are making, but am not sure what at base you are starting. As you are located in a place called 'Out' is there a parkrun you can join or other events you can enter? The extra competitive race environment could push you on (even) further, perhaps?
